One end of carbon filter looks sealed!!

I bought a CMF exhaust / Carbon filter combo but cant figure out why one end of the filter is closed. Most advice I have seen online says to pull the air through the filter and out then out the exhuast which would mean BOTH ends of the filter would need to be open. Its possible that the closed end might pop off but it looks pretty well attached.

Is anyone familar with this situation? Is it suppose to have a closed end or does it def open up?

Im thinking worst case i can set it up with the air from the exhaust pushing through the filter (thinking air will escape from the holes in the filter?) Obviously that will limit my air flow significantly!! Im confused as hell and tired of starring at this thing wondering how it works.

I appreciate any tips or advice!!

Dude that fan pulls the air through the holes in the side which goes through the carbon filter. They are made to go at the end the line

Fan...pipe...air hood......pipe...filter

the filter is the first thing the air touches
the fan PULLS air thru the filter.
the carbon filter has a pre filter on the outside (thick white cloth) so air is meant to be pulled thru it not pushed.
i did this on my first grow too :P

Carbon filter > 10"-6" reducer > 10" in-line 600cfm fan > another 10"-6" reducer > 6" flexible ducting > exhaust hole.

Chris, think of it this way, if there were an opening on both ends, then all air venting through from one hole to the other, as opposed to traveling through the virgin carbon cylindrical mesh body its spread around, that exhaust would barely contact that virgin carbon and you'd essentially be venting smelly air, especially if you are pushing that air through the filter at any sort of velocity.....

The cylindrical device is biger in middle and smaller at ends for a reason, just google "how carbon filter works"
