One more newb question: Where to measure temp from?

If I measure on the edge of the grow room in the light I get about mid to high 80's. If I measure just above the light I get high 70's to low 80's. Am I doing ok? 600watt MH conversion bulb in there right now. Will switch to 600watt HPS for flowering.

Directly in the center under the light? or off to the side some? Directly in the center under the light is hot as hell.

that's how you need to balance how close your light is to your plants. Avg temp under the light, its not rocket sciences doesn't have to be perfect.

Take the temperature at the top of the plant

dont put it in near the lamp, it will give a false temp, keep it in the vicinity of the plants, somewhere in the room where you can easily see it.
