I see a lot of conspiracy theories pertaining to this concept, I would like to point out that it is inevitable if we are to continue expanding. we need to think big picture and dissolve our borders and look to the nearest terriformable planet (mars) and become a bi-planetary species. when we break the earth down into countries we are breaking ourselves down. It does nothing but hinder technological and scientific progress and leads us ever closer to self destruction, Its worse than religion. we are all human, it seems not many people realize this. Our brains are evidence to what we can do as a collective. I believe the frontal cortex evolved in us and no other creatures for a reason, so we can perceive and avoid any mass extinction events like that which happened to the last dominant species that walked this earth. As the late great carl sagan said "we carry with us dangerous evolutionary baggage" in this he is referring to greed, affinity for killing, mistrust deception and gluttony, all traits that would surly would have benefited ancient wandering nomads, but now hinder the emergence of a peaceful enlightened space faring people. we can change, it all comes down to the individual.
so I urge you all, take a step back, look up, and realize you are a teeny tiny speck of coagulated energy, floating barley protected through a vast, dangerous and mostly unknown universe. we should also be focusing more on making contact with extraterrestrials because if we aren't alone what kind of life is out there, what could they teach us? and if we are alone is this universe then doesn't that just drive my point home? that we are so unique, there is nothing like us anywhere in the cosmos?
