i found it easier to mount lights stationary and make a platform out of wood so when the grow i just cut off another inch of wood or just stack wood and remove some as the grow
this is what i do for my grows as well, as i find it much easier to just move the plants up and down than i do to move the lamp up and down and it works good for me..

what do you mean by mag flux lines?

in the vanity the gauge wire is 18 with 400 total watts, plugged into 110 volt surge protector, that's 3.63 amps. right?

i am only using 42 x 8 = 336 watts so that's only 3.95 amps.

and the extension cord i am using for the lamp wire (cut off the female and wired black to black, green to green, and white to white) is 16 gauge, 13 amps....

both 16 gauge and 18 gauge wires, which are in the vanity and extension cord, have plenty of room and are no where near their maximum right? I mean as long as my math is right i would say i am fine using this fixture and a "light duty" extension cord. I just dont want any overheating problems....

I'm an electrician and when they say 4x G-25 100watts max that is each bulb. so that fixture is rated to 400watts. so your 150 watts total is cool. don't know what a normal extention cord is but if you are talking about a 16gauge cord keep it short i mean short because the longer the lenght the more heat meaning larger cord. also don't coil the cord up as this causes heat biuld up. mag flux lines. i would space it from your lid just to be safe. rubbermaid tote not made for light mounting,LOL hope this helps feel free to ask electricial ? anytime.
correct +rep for you

I bought this same fixture from home depot and the same y splitters and have CFLs in them. I figure two 42 watt CLFs will still be under the 100 w/socket requirement on this fixture. I haven't had any problems, but I have only run it a week. As far as wiring..Basically I got a 3 prong grounded extension cord, cut the end off and wired the 3 wires with wire nuts and elec tape. White to white, black to black and green to the copper. Plugged in to a surge protector.

Also, I have some hooks I screwed into the top of the cab with chains on each end so I can raise and lower the light. They are all rated way above the weight of the fixture. Then S hooks for the fixture. The only prob is s hooking the fixture itself. There are 2 holes in the sides that I have run plastic wire ties through to create the loop. Not the best, but they haven't melted. Will probably come up with a better rig for that part soon. One good thing about bathroom vanities is that they are made to be forgiving towards moisture and humidty.

i took some insulated 12 gauge wire from my garage and used that for hanging my rack. i put an about 6in piece on each end, through some holes. then made a loop in it and tied it off. then i took a longer piece(mines about 4ft since im hanging off a closet clothes hanger pole) and tied it off on those loops, then onto the pole above it. this makes it easy to adjust, because i just untie the part of the long wire, which goes through the loops, and adjust up or down, then retie. the wire is quite strong and stiff, so i just twist like twice and it stays. theres a few pics in my closet grow link in sig

i go to the dollar store and buy a 12 foot dog chain for $2.00 cant beat it then use 2 hooks and i can adjust by raising and lowering with the links. But im done with the rubbermaid grows to much a pain in the ass they r great for seedlings but run out of room real quick and to high of temps

yeah, unless u do 12/12 straight from seed, the plants outgrow those rubbermaids fast

tell me about and when removing lid branches break i had a herm in my room the other day and had to break the rubbermaids out to get it out of room and it is a bush so i had to stack 3 with bottom cut out of 2 just for top boxes and still had to do a dance to get it over plant lol so so much for saying im done with them lol but good thing i still had them laying around
