Operation BigBud : Revenge of the N00b

Greetings dear reader,

What follows is my very first grow, so do point out any wrongness you see happening !

I also am not at all sure what I am growing, I bought a bunch of seeds some of which were Haze, some were a strange swiss strain calles ASG or something and the rest were goodbag mixes. I had meant to label them all, but that did not happen and everything got mixed up and so now I have random plants that look really different and I am not sure what they are.

I did however happen to have a fantastic space (large and tall empty walk-in wardrobe) to grow inside in and I had enough money to buy 2 x 1000 Watt special agriculture lights that can be boosted for flowering, proper fertilised soil from Amsterdam, some good nutrients for growth and flowering (as well as flush and an additive to enhance flowering) and finally all of the reflective stuff to go on the walls and roof of the room.

I basically walked into the grow shop like a noob and bought anything they told me to, so I have everything I need according to them.

Am happy to report that my plants are growing up strongly and healthily, here are the first sets of photos of them.

This first photo (15th July) is whilst they are are still in their seedling pots, I used the ones that roots can grow through, I just plant the whole pot into the larger (15L) pots.

The very last picture I took today (Aug 16th), I can hardly believe that they have grown this quickly in just one month !

More pics to come.

I have a few questions for anyone out there able to answer them.

1) I used feminized seeds for this grow and I understand I cannot clone them, is this correct ?

2) I have read that because I grew them from seeds I need to keep them in the vegetative state for at least 60 days in order to get decent yields from them BECAUSE they were grown from seeds rather than clones. Is this correct ?

3) Should I just keep adding nutrient in higher doses until I begin to see noticeable signs of over-nutrition on the lives, find their level ?

4) How tall should they be before I start to flower them ?

3) Should I just keep adding nutrient in higher doses until I begin to see noticeable signs of over-nutrition on the lives, find their level ? That's fucking retarded.

4) How tall should they be before I start to flower them ? Their going to double in size when flowering hits so keep that in mind with your space.

With these question's you got the wrong mindset for growing.
Not putting you down but you got to read a lot more.
Nice little setup you got growing though.

Thanks man, yeah I need to read more but everything I read seems to contradict everything else I read. Its all very confusing.

The guy who told me all of the above I wanted to check if it was correct was the guy who works in the grow shop, told me about not being able to clone feminized seeds because their genetics get screwed when they are feminized.

The bit about only flowering seedlings after 60 days veg I read somewhere else.

I must say though that despite me being a total first timer at this they are coming along handsomely considering I am working it out as I go. Not had any problems with them yet and all the leaves look super healthy.

So following on from the question and your answer about nutes, how do I work out how much to give them ?

I have been giving them veg nutes in increased doses every time I water and they just eat it up with no sign overnuting on the leaves and so I was wondering when too much is too much and how do I find that level if not to see overnuting in the leaves ?

Ah, I have just discovered your page on nutes from your sig and am reading about the law of the minimum. Ignore my question about nutes, I think you answered it there and thank you for that post, very informative.

They look nice and bushy dude.

I'm a n00b too, and the only thing I can add is that pretty much any question you may have has already been answered somewhere on the net....correctly or otherwise.

:)

Seriously though, look for grows that are similar to your conditions and use them as a guide. The most challenging aspect I have found during my grow is developing the ability to "read the plants", as this skill takes experience and can't really be taught by book or whatever. I have found that keeping a log has helped to develop this skill, as you can compare your notes as far as the health of your plants with your conditions and nute schedule.

The best bit of advice out there for us n00bs, IMO, is that it is better to go light on the nutes than heavy, as you can always add more, but once you have burned your plant, you can't really repair the damage.

Here's a link to mandala seeds that I found extremely well written and helpful:

There is a LOT of good info there.

Best of luck to you.

If only everyone could read that law.
Thanks for tuning in.

Urgh ! I think I overheated one of my strains, all the leaves started curling up almost like a fist closing.

Already submitted this to the hospital and the consensus is that my room is too hot so I removed these two plants and have them sitting in the sunshine now and I raised my lights, reorganised my room and changed the position of the fan. Things seemed to have cooled down now.
