Opinions guys. Purple stems

Ok guys this is one of my plants.



5 weeks old. Stunted from over watering then converted to fabric pots. So would guess its 2-3 weeka behind.

Then i stupidly double fed as im doing water feed water feed schedual. Did a panic flush when i realised.

Running dimmable 600 watt hps brunnings bag soil and did start them in brunning seed starter soil.

Water roughly 4-5 days apart when dry.

Using only seasol liquid fert.

Ph level from run off last water was 6.8.

Also have a ph moister tester and ppm pen on order should arrive this week.

Whats causing the purple stem and purple veigns. Also any other advice or opinions you may see?

Never used Brunnings. They have many varieties.
My 1st guess is you need to upgrade your choice of soil.
Depending on where you live find a bag soil that is popular with RIU members in your area if you are in AU.
A quality soil can go for several weeks without needing nutes and should grow a decent size plant under a 600w hps before being fed.
Wish I could be of more help. If the plant is that small and struggling I have a difficult time seeing it brought back to good health by a suggestion of feeding it something.

If it was me I would buy a bag of fox farm ocean forest( available in the US), transplant it and carry on with water only and it would bounce back fine.
That's just what I would do, others might have a different direction for you to fix it. Maybe someone who uses Brunnings.

Is that mulch or is the soil full of wood chips like that?

Thanks mate i think it was a bad soil choice. I might transplant into another soil.

That is otganic otting mix yes does have small wood chips.

unfortunately there are to many unknown variable ...5 weeks is a ridiculous amount of time for what you've got...5 weeks that thing could be 4ft tall if it was proper

I know nothing about the brand of soil...

what size pot is that little girl in?

you might be better off starting over with a quality soil and smaller pot... that little plant might only need a pot the size of a solo cup or maybe a 6" pot at max... to big a pot wont dry out and the pot stays wet...a smaller pot will actually dry out between waterings and youll be less likely to over water....

Its is still growing noticed a big spurt over the last few days..

I think from seedlings they were over watered as they were stunted and set back a few weeks and a transplant aswell..

The soil i got is probably no good so i may buy some premium soil and replant..

Its just in au most soil is sold with released ferts and and wetting agents so hard to find a good soil.

make your own (for ten gallons)

2 gallons compost
4gallons peat
4 gallons perlite

1.5 cups dolomite/lime


optional if your not using fertilizer
organic food amendments
1cup kelp meal
1 cup organic blend (for example tomato tone)
? cups rock dust/mineral rock/azomite

cover and cook 4 to 6 weeks

for sprouts and young plants in small starter pots omit the organic blend so the soils not hot

Ok may do that tomorrow and transplant all my plants

but you cant... you gotta wait for it to cook

which means you mix it all together and cover it... trash cans work good! let it sit at least 4 weeks. Preferably 6

it takes time for it to cook so the lime works to adjust the ph proper
if you don't cook the soil first youll have only trouble

at the time you mix it the ph will be very low... the mix has to sit for a period of time so the lime can correct the ph...

unless its available t you they do make a medium, its sold here named sunshine mix #4 (pro mix is another)...
if you can find this or some other brand that's similar you could skip the cooking

the sunshine#4 is already cooked
it contains
peat
perlite
lime and the lime has already had time to do its thing

so if you can source something lkike this you could just add the compost and amendments if you so choose or just feed salt fertilizers if you don't care about organics

the mix i suggested is what i use for a faster draining mix

if you live where theres not much rain you would mix

1 part compost
1 part perlite
1 part peat

so basically its more compost instead of 20% compost you can do up to 33%

if you live in a very dry place you might consider using vermiculite to hold more moisture longer.. it just depends on how frequently your available to water it
but i wouldn't suggest this unless its ver dry or your not available to water it for several days (more than 3)

If it is full of wood chips that is part of the problem.

Yep i think it is i will def buy some premium soil tomorrow and transplant again.. will stunt them again for another week or so but i think it will be the best option.

Ok guys thanks for the help..

Transplanted into scotts pure organic premium potting and planting mix.
Has natural ferts chicken manure blood and bone fish meal seaweed and bio stimulants..

Mixed the organic soil with:
Coir, peat and perlite.

Will update in a week or so.

Hey guys here is a update 8 days after transplant it seems to have bounced back and growing.

Roots already hitting the bottom of the 3 gal smart pot.

Looking even better today



Due for watering by tonight or tomorrow may wait another day.
