Opinions on dehumidifer

My grow is a 5x5 with a 600w hps . I was informed that I could possibly pull 5gal of water a day when plants get fairly mature. The dehumidifier I'm looking at is rated to pull 4gal of water in 24 hours under 95° and 90% RH conditions. It's rated for 2500 sqft. Is this sufficient or is it an over kill for a 5x5?

Over kill is ok. Those home DEHUS are pretty garbage at lower humidty levels. Plus she'll turn off her compressor when you reach humidity . So it's ok to go a little bigger. Better than a little smaller if you have the room.

I guess my question actually comes down to the amount per 24 hrs not sqft coverage. . If it's rated for 4 gal/24 hrs under certain conditions. And this guy is pulling at least 5gal a day, the 4gal will fall short of performance to controll the climate correct? You're answer may have referred to this.

It's complicated. But it comes down to. What is the Ambient RH in the tent location ??? Where you live. Is it well sealed? Or no? How much water do you put in there each day? It will be roughly equal to the amount they transpire each day. Kind of one of those things where it's different at different times of the year etc.

This one also comes with an option for a drain hose for constant drainage which I feel would be handy
That's a really nice feature. One thing I'll warn you....The put out a LOT of heat! So keep that in mind. I have 2 units...a 50 pint a day unit for my 1400 s.f. basement, and then I have a smaller 30 pint unit in my flower room, which is 8 x 20, and both are hooked up to a drain so I never have to empty them. The small one in my flower room pulls about 2+ gallons a day and keeps it under 50% rh

See this is my point.
I run 2X 70pints in my 10x17 flower room. And sometimes they can't keep up and my exhaust fan kicks on when RH spikes over 70% on dark cycle. And then they shut off or come off and on as needed.

some days they pull 10 gal. In a 12h dark period.

Gotcha.

So if that 30 pint unit works for your 8x20 during flower I should be golden with the same unit

4 or 5 gal will be enough for your tent though likely. Lol.
It is actually a room. With it being presswood, caulking and weather tape over seams then panda film its pretty sealed off. The rh gets up to 80% since the panda film was installed. Heat sits at 88-90 but I'm not venting yet, looks like I may have to to avoid getting ac. Just an air cooled hood

The dehumidifer will drive those temps too high then. I'd leave it outside the tent. And then cycle in air as needed.

Alright. It looks like it may be more simple to vent and see how my heat goes.. I was keeping that for a last resort to contain my Co2, Just an xl exhale bag, but if my temps fluctuate any more I'll have issues.

In the process of rigging up vent ducting for the heat being produced by a dehumidifier now.

Found a floor vent duct fitting at a yard sale for 50 cents. It happens to be the correct size.

Will have to attach the vent duct to the dehumidifier with duct tape or something then 6 inch ducting outside.

A cardboard box with a 4inch dryer exhaust could be rigged up to remove heat as well.

How does it work?

Only on wet days is it going to pull 5 gallons a day from a 5x5. Specially with an hps. It will stay dry in the daytime then at night the rh will skyrocket but its nothing a 4gal a day wont handle.

The heat is exhausted from the top of the dehumidifier.

Initially planned to tape a box around the vent on top and cut a 4inch diameter hole in the top of the box to insert and seal a piece of 4inch duct from a dryer exhaust kit.

Then run 4inch exhaust out of the house with dryer vent.

Still might go that route because of size of duct and easier and cheaper than 6inch.

Found the floor vent and thought I might tape it over the dehumidifier vent and run 6inch exhaust (overkill).

So you are paying for that air which you immediatelly sealed with ducting and vented outside? I must have miss something…
