Options for RO water source

AC coils get the nastiest bacterial buildup that is even life threatening. a brand new unit may not be such a contaminant but a used unit will. also i make sure that my water does not contact anything that is not food grade, and the metals that form the AC coils are far from anything "food grade". RIU sometimes makes me sick because I try to give correct info, but it's frustrating when a monkey on a keyboard with 1000 posts + disapproves what's true and gives WRONG info without even bothering to look it up at all before giving bad advice that can have terrible consequences. giving advice in here is like hammering water. good luck

The water it self is not contaminated and if the coil is kept dry, which most ac units now do by allowing the fan to run longer drying the coil. Also many coils now have antibacterial coatings. It is the water that sits in the drain pan that can become stagnet and filled with bacteria, I guess your thinking of possibly legionaires disease, That is typically from cooling tower water that sits over a period of time. The water itself is not contaminated. If you are using that water then it does not have a chance to stagnate. Sorry for the misunderstanding. But really a "monkey" thats the frustrating part! Also I dont disagree with your food grade materials suggestion but really I think it would be quite a chore to verify all materials are food grade, like pumps, totes, net pots, etc. But I respect your opinion and good luck in your quest for the truth!

I really appreciate the advice zem and I know first hand how frustrating it can be on these forums. And trust me I would never blindly accept someone advice without first verifying for myself(you included, no offense :) )

I will research the topic more aggressively once I actually get an AC unit

Thanks a lot waterdawg :) some quality info^! appreciate it man!

Hey no sweat. When i give advice I try to know what I'm talking about. Anything else I contribute is just my own experience and I'm new to hydro as well. HVAC is my trade, I teach apprentices as well as design systems for air quality control, radon remediation, etc. lol.

Perhaps in the future you could refrain from name calling and negativity as well. That is what makes this site frustrating. We all know that you must seperate the the good advice from the bad.
