Orange or Brown pistils to harvest?

In a disagreement with my buddy that says you should harvest when majority of you're pistils are orange and alive, cause when they go brown they are dead

Everywhere I read is to harvest 50/50 brown/orange

What do you do?

I wait until you cant see them because theyve receded into the flower. That means theyre done.

Why would you want live pistils? Makes no sense.

Your buddy is dumb.

IMO the color of the pistils can vary due to different factors, like someone said above, the real indication is when they have receded into the calyxes and these look swollen and fat.
