Organic Coco Coir Dr Earth Grow

Hello, everyone. I finished my first grow recently, netting me 1.5oz from one plant using the fox farms trio as nutes and a less-than ideal growing medium of mostly cheap peat moss. (Anyone dealt with Thrips before?) I'd like to try again.

I've learned quite a bit since then, and would like to try my hand with Dr Earth's dry amendments. Specifically the 4-6-3 veg and 3-9-4 bloom. I want to use Coco Coir/Perlite as my medium, as I have a bag of Mother Earth in my garage. Can I use Mother Earth with Dr Earth dry amendments and my girls be okay? Can Coco Coir act like soil in that way? I know Canuck used Gaia Green with Coco, but I'm not sure the differences between that and Dr Earth. If I can go this route, would supplementing with dolomite lime help during veg? Or would it throw off the PH too much in the Coco? Thanks for any and all responses, I appreciate the feedback.

Any specific reason you are picking coco? I hear of a lot of people having issues with organics and coco despite all the good results Matt gets. He's also grow with Gaia greens since probably its existence tho. And even he switched to there living soil now from most of the videos i see now a days. He locks a lot of it behind subs which kinda sucks.

The Thrips I had during the first grow turned me off, and made me curious about coco. Except I used cheap all-american peat moss and some garden mix potting soil. It felt safer pest wise.

After I did some research before posting I have seen what you said about people having issues. I was hoping to find some new opinions maybe from someone that's tried specifically mother earth with dr earth. I've also seen Stealth Grows on Youtube use Royal Tupur with Malibu Compost/Dr Earth. He's pointed out in a video that the compost isn't necessary in the mix.. but.. is it?

I'm also wanting to try different mediums until I settle on one.

Good luck using that method.
I've yet to see a successful grow without issues using this method with coco.
There is a Gaia Green thread in the organics section of this forum........nobody uses it with coco.......you might want to check it out.

I guess I'm going to be a guinea pig after all. I used 2 tbs per gallon of medium for the dr earth dry amendments, and left out the dolomite lime. 4 scoops of veg, 2 scoops of bloom. Going to be topdressing every 3 weeks with the same ratio until flower, if we make it that far. I also have a fox farms trio liquid nutrient run going next to this dry amendment run in coco. Got my seed in water, planting the bean tomorrow! I'll be posting updates as it goes.

Okay... After some germination issues, I now have 2 OG Diesel Kush auto seedlings started in a peat/coco mix with perlite and dr earth. Sadly the one in Mother Earth with Dr Earth just stopped and died, same with the one in Mother Earth I was planning on using the fox farms nutrients on. I have since then went germination crazy, and now have a crunch berries photo, and 5 kosher kush photo's germinated and planted. I have no idea if all of them are female or not. I will fill this 3x3 damnit!

...and hopefully need more space so I can talk the wife into a 2x2 to make use of the sf-1000 I have sitting here..

Edit - I will add pictures as soon as I can. My phone shattered today.

I recently bought some recharge.. Would that work? I'm not even quite sure what it is yet. I got it a little bit on sale and figured why not.

I have two seedlings.. Jerry and Larry. Jerry has stretched a little and Larry had a rough start not wanting to come out of his shell. We are on day 3 from popping out of the soil. I have used a little bit of recharge with my last watering, and they seemed to really like it. I moved my light to 24" away and have turned the dim to 25% (Mars Hydro TSW2000). Out of 6 seeds these were the only two to survive.

Alright so I believe we are on day 16 from these autos popping out of the soil. Larry looks a little bit lighter in color than Jerry. I assume because when I mixed nutrients I mixed both 3 gallons together and then scooped out in the individual pots. I believe a different nutrient mix is in each, affecting each plant differently. I think after the first top dressing Larry may catch up. The photoperiod seedlings in the far right picture are a few Kosher Kush and a single Do Si Dos. The one sulking in the soil is a KK and is weird to me, I'm not sure why it wants to be such a lowrider. Regardless, it looks like we're doing well so far. I did mix some peat moss in with my coco coir and perlite, with Dr Earth, and have been supplementing with recharge every other watering. I have well water, not city water, so I haven't been dechlorinating. Does anyone think checking into that would benefit me? Or do these look good so far?

Hey guys. Day 34 for these Autos. They have bushed out very well. Larry is on the left. He looks like he may be getting some kind of nute burn... Possibly PH issue? Jerry is on the right. Jerry has thicker and darker leaves. Looks to be starting flower, has a lot more pistils. I've given Jerry more recharge feedings. I mixed up a double strength dose of recharge for Larry to take care of the nutrient issue. The bag says any dose is fine so I'm going to boost those microbes and make sure she's getting what she needs. I was gone for.. 3-4 days. In that time period, all of the solo cup starts I had dried out much sooner and started yellowing. My mutant fan leaf top was "topped" to reveal a few new sets of tiny leaves... I hope these aren't new mutants. I transplanted my photoperiod Kosher Kush into a 3 gallon smart pot filled with Coco Coir, and amended with Perlite and Dr. Earth Veg+Bloom dry amendments. I think I'm going to grab a bag of all purpose and topdress with veg and all purpose when the time comes. As for the autos, one more topdress of 3 tbsp bloom and 3 tbsp veg in about 3 weeks.

Another full week and Larry has not shown preflower pistils. Definitely WANTS TO but I think it's not an autoflower. I've swapped the light schedule to 12/12 to induce flower, because it's been vegging in this 3 gallon smart pot for 5 weeks. I think it's time. She's filled out the pot a little better, so has Jerry. A little more LST and defoliation went a long way. I'm excited for the finished product, sad that I have to flip my other photoperiods sooner than I wanted to.

LarryStartingFlower.jpg Hey guys. Day 52 for these girls. Jerry has started fattening up buds and showing some trichs. I've followed my topdressing schedule to a T, and they look very healthy. Larry, my photoperiod that's supposed to be an auto, has shown nice node stacking and I'm really excited to see the size of the buds on her. I can't figure out how to organize these pictures or text so they are all mixed. I'm sure you can tell which is which.

I've forgot to mention as well - I'm scrapping the idea of straight coco with dry amendments. It's entirely possible, but not how coco is intended. If anyone viewing this thread is wondering if they should use dry amendments with coco, the answer is it's up to you. The dry amendments love the microbiology soil and they complement each other on a level that coco will never be able to, as it's a hydroponic medium and not meant to be an organic style medium. The original reason I posted this thread was because I could never find a straight answer no matter how many threads I read, and after watching so many Canuk videos I wanted to try it. His buds may be big, but his methods a while ago were less than ideal. He has since swapped to somewhat of a living soil with dry amendments, and has had better results because of it. I'm going to be swapping to a mix of coco and soil, with dry amendments. All Dr. Earth (Pot Of Gold Soil, Veg and Bloom dry nutes) with Mother Earth coco/perlite blend. I have also acquired a 2x2 tent with an SF1000 and popped 3 bagseed photoperiods in my new mix, so sooner than later I'm going to be posting another thread.

Thanks for this! I’m going to be trying a blend of ffof (1/3) with a mild mix and perlite on my next grow, one with dry amendments and one without, both will eventually be top fed as well. Gonna check out if I see any major difference or if it’s even possibly lol

Hey guys, Day 60! Jerry's buds are starting to fill out pretty nicely. I'm actually VERY excited for Larry to start to fill out as well. I'm running into an issue with either nute burn or light stress, since I found out Larry was a photoperiod it really messed up what I would've given it feedings wise. Now I'm paying for it I believe. Regardless, MUCH better than round one so far! No pests or diseases have plagued this grow at all, I just hope that I haven't jinxed myself lol
