The guy caught the thieves in action, A 12 gauge shotgun would have guaranteed a better outcome for the fellow, I mean a shot is not even necessary just the shear sound of a shell being loaded into the barrel is enough to scare them from ever coming back.

Once they realize what ever happened wasnt nice. Id suspect they'd leave. Try and again and Same deal lol It's only a very fine SS 28 gauge wire.
