Outdoor cannabis DWC

Hey all, in the New England area hoping to take my DWC to the next level! I have had success indoors but my last outdoor attempt failed miserably, I did learn I was not cooling my water enough so I have an idea but need some serious advice! I want to veg in a 5 gallon bucket starting in June, at the end of July before the flip I want to transfer to a 55 gallon DWC custom bubbler home made. This year my plan is to bury the barrel into the ground Atleast 2 feet down and throw ice bottles in during the summer heat. This will obviously take more upkeep then I am used to and more electricity then I prefer but I am looking for a fun project! My biggest questions are below:

1. does this sound like something that can be realistically achieved without purchasing a water chiller
2. Has anyone had success with this method?
3. How can I change nutes without a full blown head ache, I am thinking leaving a pump in at all times and during change times pump and refill, but I really like cleaning each Res. Change to get out any build up, if I don’t is that going to cause issues?
4. Thanks in advance guys

I used to run hydro outdoor in Aero
Even that got hot with a buried 55 gallon drum
And roots , my god the roots
Constantly trimming to prevent clogs cause outdoor hydro goes rampant and with not being able to flip the veg goes wild
I quit for a reason, but mostly for the ease of the grow
Too old for challenges :weed:

Hahaha thank you for the response and yes I am worried the same will happen after a ton of time is invested. Even if I started in June do you think I would have the same issues? Still aim to harvest in October...

I couldn't solve it without a ton of work
Ultimately put a tent in my yard to flip sooner but it was a pita

Ultimately ended up something like this in raised beds
Low maintenance and plenty of room to veg in hay bales filled with pro-mix V%OjMEN1S2qA1OhMk2hm3Q.jpg

I have wondered this myself. Id think it would work since the ground stays cooler and in New England where its cooler as well.

I never tried it. If you arent depending on a harvest give it a try. Worst that happens your plant dies.

As far as changing nutrients. You could attach a pipe that sticks out of the ground and connects to the bottom of the bucket. And then use a dipstick type setup like a cars engine has to gauge the water level and also use that pipe to fill up, pH and add fertilizer.

Outdoors if your in a warm environment and with the right genetics you can grow trees anyway. If your hearts set on hydro outdoors you might be better of using a hempy type system .

What about the wind in a dwc system? With the roots not being heavily anchored wouldn't there be issues in the open outdoors ?

first thank you all for your responses it is all helpful..
I would have some type of protection structure whether a green house or I was thinking mounting PVC into ground and building almost a scrog type support? Still unsure
