Outdoor Cloning

Hi there,
I will be cloning soon outdoors(cant bring em inside)
I am going to use 1.5 litre plastic bottles as a greenhouse affect.
I have clonex, rock wool, perlite, and a little soil.
2 questions really. Shall i mix half perlite half soil for the base of the bottle and have the rock in the middle, or shall i just have perlite with the rock wool in the middle. I thought the soil would hold a little moisture as i will only be going to them every 5 days.

My other question is if i did this what should the ph levels be, i thought about 5.5 but if i added some soil with the mix the ph would be different.

our temps are great right now...nothing below 15celcius at night and nothing higher than 28celcius daytime, and was going to keep them in semi shade.

most people will tell you that its hard or impossible to clone outdoors, I myself am trying this also.....my first attempt failed horribly due to excessive rain..which flooded the clones.......i have a container with small pots in it.....i put about a gallon of water then a small layer of plastic so they wouldn't drown... this way the soil in the pots are always moist.....i put a lid on it and i use rooting powder....i think i need an airtight container with small holes on the side....... good luck bro

just buy the flats with high lids. they're cheap!

5 Weeks later....

Out of 4 clones done out in the wild 1 survived, and Its going really good,


5.5 weeks ago

Heres are what my outdoor experiment looked like:




i had the bottom filled with water just enough to keep soil moist


and here you go....




I didnt cover it with the lid i used plastic wrap.....i came back after 4 days to check on them because it was raining and they were fine...but i started messing with it and ended up killing a clone.....i came back after 5 days..... and a white fuzzy fur was on the tips of 2 of the clones. The humidity must have gone too high..i knew i had mold so i killed the 2 in hope for the mold not to get the last clone.

I took off the plastic wrap and i left the last one out there with any chance it had....i came about 3 days later and i saw that it was mostly dead, but without mold... I pulled it out and sure enough i saw small threads of root beginning to form all around the bottom where i dipped in rooting powder

so i say that if you have a close eye on them ....you can root clones outdoors!! i did! But the survival rate was low....keep in mind that this was my first ever time cloning :mrgreen:

Thanks crusso, Yeah its a hard one to do outdoors but if you cant do it indoors then so be it.
Any pics of your one that survived? looks like we had the same results.

i did one out side like lasst wed. i used rooting powder and put it strait in the soil. it doing fine. i will get pics up soon

I successfully cloned my outdoor female by just putting cuttings in some water and planting them out when they started to root.

well done ,i have never done it outdoors ,at least i have never cloned out doors ,but we get a fucking lot of bugs here ,but i may give it a go this spring?:peace:

Thank you..... If I could have checked on them everyday I think I could have successfully cut, root, and grown a cutting from a plant already in veg also outdoors.

That was my very first time cloning at all. I think I will try it again some other time but with like 15 cuttings. Even though the survival rate is low some will still live :)

i done a similar thing but i just threw some cut of bits in a drum as rubbish it had about half an inch of water from a previous rainfall about three weeks later i needed the drum so decided to tip out the contents when i did i noticed a couple of the cut of bits had sprung roots and were still alive no cutting powder or nothing.

Here's 2 clones I got going right now that were planted about 8 days ago. So far so good, as far as I know. Any tips for cloning would help greatly! Such as whens the best time to clone, and if it's ok to just use soil or do u have to use perlite. I have one outside that I just dipped in rootone powder and planted and it's doing great. I'll get pics of that up tomorrow. When I clone should I use a larger size branch, or is that size fine? I have seen many pics of people using what look to be preflowering branches. I'd appreciate any help I can get. Let me know your honest opinion of how they look and my technique. BTW I planted them in soil not perlite and they have a light on them indoors. Thanks

i was doing experament i just took some cuting from the botem of a few pants to help with air flow and just for shits and giggles i stuck them in the same pot i got it from wih nothing but dirt . during the day thay looked all droopy but at night thay looked normal puleed one out and thay are strting to make roots then i took another one and cdipped it in hormone (powder) and made a dome out of two plastic cups and just some water in the bottem and its already got a few roots

this year im growing 10 early durban, i want more plants but have no more money for seeds im going to attempt to take a few of each plant and see what happens.
so im in a similar situation
