Outdoor flowering in Michigan

I have some beautiful plants that have been in 5 gallon pots outdoors for about 2 months, mainly sativa. By the time the light cycle here gets close to 12 hours a day, it will be mid to late September. There's no way the plants will be able to flower for 8 weeks without hitting a frost. It will be impossible to cover them or move them, so how does Mother Nature accomodate for this, if at all? And if my plants get hit with frost, they may die but that just means it's time to cut and dry, correct? I appreciate some good advice!

Well I'm confused, I live in Traverse City (michigan) and I have plants out side and they have been budding for at least two weeks now, they will make it to harvest before the frost.
What part of the state are you in? if your below Cadillac you have a longer grow time than I do.

I'm in Flint. I'm a newbie, so I'm just going on the typical light cycles for flowering. Your plants are flowering with less than 12 hours of darkness, and with my lack of experience I had no idea that could happen.

You can put a dark large trash bag over them each day after 12 hours and remove in the morning others use a large trash pail does the same thing and no the plants wont die. The can cost more but I tried it at gfs house and it worked. Pain in the ass to do every day but if you love your girls do it.
