Altho tie ing things down outside, on windy daze, no matter how loose you string it up, the branches do get bruised from all the back and forth being tied up in the wind cutting through. Seen it loads of times.... I just sit with em now and bend the branches to its threshold as flat(vertically) as i can make it for at least a couple of mins, then after I let go it doesnt go shooting up, its spings back a bit but the branch is revealing more to the sun so the lower buds can develop. I have snapped a few in my time and does take some practice...I have good success with that method. couple of mins each branch should be enough time. get a feel for the branch of where the best place to start bending it from. normall a third of the way up maybe a bit more. The thicker the branches the harder it is, so be careful.
Topping is a must, give the other branches to catch up on the main tops, and stops the height for a good couple of weeks. Makes a more uiniform growth. The bigger the pot the bigger they will get and if sunny regulary they will grow proper quickly.
Dont know if use Potassium silicon to your feed. Advanced do some and local shops. Ladys get covered in insects so if use some of that, it creates a barrier all around the plant without going to far into depth, so will help big time.
Anyway good luck
