Outdoor Underground Grow Room Idea

I wanted to get some opinions on this matter. I want to start growing because well, i love to grow plants in general. And seeing i have this talent and a love for bud i might as well try. I want to guerilla grow outdoors. I have a spot and a helper. Basically i plan to dig a 5 by 5 hole about 6 feet down and add some drainage holes via PVC and tarps on the side etc. And then cap it with an arced tarp as a sort of greenhouse. Inside i will put a motion sensor (http://www.cabelas.com/trail-cameras-murs-alert-8482-trail-monitoring-system.shtml) so i can make sure there isn't any thieves or authorities snooping around. A wireless camera is just too expensive and since its inside the grow hole, I will know its not an animal. I plant to grow some local weed and Haze, then cross it to produce a good crop and seeds for next year. Please let me know what you think, I appreciate it.

Note: This will be done in about a square mile of a suburban community and i don't want thieves or anyone to see it from the street. It is in a thinned out area of a dense deciduous forest so that wont be such an issue, however one can never be to careful. Also i have a person who lives in view of the forest so i could definitely find out if anything big went down over there. Yet, i feel this must be underground to be low-key from eyesight and aerial views, and so i can really contain my crop and further its growth. Im still concerned about any problems i might run into however. Im a new grower but i know how to grow a majority of plants and i can sex them, grow them, cultivate them, preserve and prepare them, just i need help along the way from more experienced people.

Do not dig a hole it will draw more attention then just a plant here and there speread out. You got to rember what are you going to do with the dirt after you dig it up will you carry it on tarps miles away from your grow. I dont think so it is just easyer to put in a plant here and there and hope no one finds them. You should do this alown and not with a freind your freind will just draw more attention. Mix in your plants with black berrys or stinging nettles. I always plant in the middle of scotch broom or stinking nettles or some kind of harmfull plant to deture people. Gl go out about a month or 2 befor planting and just watch the trafic see how many people walk buy and at what times. I have sat in parks for hours smoking bowls watching everyone habits do they travel off the trail were at off the trail. How many athority travel by the your spot. You also got to rember your hole is going to be a natural swiming pool dont dig undergound it is just to mutch attention and not worth the time.

I plan to cover the hole with the tarp completely to achieve the desired greenhouse effect. you see foot traffic is nonexistent due to the fact that this is property behind several houses thats owned by the state, due to presence of a highway. The tarp would be arced and raised to add height and the hole itself would have numerous drainage ports, and about 1-2 feet of gravel and topsoil added. the reason for this is to prevent authorities and animals. Thanks for the input however, and the stinging nettles is a good idea as well. However with this idea water would not be an issue, nor would lack of humidity or heat. all i have to do is remove the tarp or add a hatch to regulate it, and for the dirt, i would spread it around making an even layer everywhere, and use the extra to fill the bottom with nutrient rich topsoil.

If you dig a hole and cover it with a tarp how will it get light? Also if growing outdoors always take a different route to your grow area so you dont create a trail... Or bring a dog with you so he can be your excuse for being out there.

Shit... I know someone who grew in oil drums with plastic over them and yeilded.... but i will agree that your hole in the ground idea will be more likely to get found than a few scattered plants..... A few scattered green plants in a bunch of other green plants is not the eye sore that you imagine. A giant hole in the ground covered in plastic is bound to draw the eye...and more work than its worth.

Depending on your area, you'll need to consider the seasonal high groundwater table. Also, depending on the native soil type, you need to consider slope stability within your "excavation". Most soil types lose strength when saturated, I'd hate to hear that your plants or worse YOU were injured in a sidewall cave-in during a rainstorm! Please consider your safety and reconsider your efforts.

Thank you all very much for these responses, just my big thing in surveillance, you see if i contain them like so and i install the wireless motion detector, i will know for sure it is a person and not an animal due to the location of the detector. However if its above ground and outside i cant control the humidity and the sensor would go off on every animal. And to answer the tarp question, it would get sunlight because if the tarp is white or clear, it still permeates light and UV rays, what plants need

IMHO - Although you sound like a VERY dedicated grower, diggin a 5'x5'x6' deep hole, sounds like you're digging your own grave.

1) The trail camera and alert system $199.99 are very cool and techy, but what if someone does discover your plot? It will only alert you, not protect your crop. What will you do if it does alert you? Run down to the garden with a shotgun?
2) Please don't kid yourself! A hole that large will be A LOT of dirt, are you really prepared to excavate 150 cubic feet of soil? The unit weight of a typical soil is anywhere from 90 -120 pounds per cubic foot. So thats 13,500 lbs to 18,000 lbs of soil if you complete your excavation to your specifications.
3) That kind of earthwork and your tarp WILL be visible from the air. Beware of helicopters.
4) In my area, places that close to "society" are often the playgrounds for neigborhood teenagers or the campsites of homeless people, please, carefully scout your site. Spend a lot of time there before you do any planting, see what kind of traffic is there during the week and the weekend.

Again these are only my opinions, just some food for thought. I would consider using the $200.00 and buy a good HID light, http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-Digital-Greenhouse-600-watt-HPS-Grow-Light.asp or something similar and take over your closet!!! It's much safer in the long run.

Good Luck!!!

Well to cover the traffic part, i have a friend who lives VERY close and can vouch to the fact that there is no foot traffic there. However the point has been taken in regards to the amount of dirt, labor, and time. Thanks for that. I changed my game plan to sparsely planting everywhere. Its just that the plants will remain green while other weeds die off, which may attract attention. I dont want an indoor grow because well that is not plausible at the moment. Jusr security. I need a way to check on my babies away from them, via camera or what have you. any ideas?

Also if sparsley grown, how can i selectively pollinate? just cut the stamens from recently pulled males and use that pollen?

I haven't done an outdoor grow for a varity of reasons, so I'm no expert. I've never found a place that I thought I could get away with, and I spend a lot of time in the woods both for work and play. It's a big gamble but the rewards can be big also!!! Browse some of the outdoor grow threads, BalZac is getting ready for spring - https://www.rollitup.org/outdoor-growing/396437-balzacs-guerrilla-grow-ny-style.html
There are a few others, I'm sure you might gain some ideas and knowledge by reading some fellow outdoor growers posts.
Good Luck!
PS
I'm glad you decided to skip the excavation, but kudos for trying to be innovative!!!

i think the idea behind the camera is to make sure no authority figures get wise to the grow. or if someone finds it u can bail and not get caught.

The amount of dirt removed from this hole would fill a dump truck. Removing all of this fresh dirt from the site doesn't sound too stealthy to me.

Today i just picked up about 20 seeds. They are fertile and ready to grow, I'm sure, yet they are not anything too special. I plant to grow about 2 haze plants. The thing is i don't care if its male or female. I would prefer one of each because then i can get some quality bud and some quality pollen for future half-quality seeds. I checked other forums about pollination and am still left in the dark. Can anybody here help be with pollinating my marijuana without losing all my bud?

ur paying for the battery and the redneck camo bells and whistles

u can get a wifi cam for 100 bucks and go near it with a laptop to see whats going on.

only problem is power. u could get a trickle charger and a UPS battery and the cam for 300 prolly.

You do not want to plant males in your spots the males will polinate your plants and you will get seedy less quality buds. You should do some research befor you go off trying to harvest some bud kill all your males bad for everyone. you can get cheap cams my mom got cams to souround are house/ im sher she is cheap if she can get 8 cams for the house you can get 1 for your grow site. i would use solar panel to power your cam camo your solar panel and you will be good. you should look up pit green houses i tihnk i have found out what you are talking about. I built a pit green house and it keeps it warmer then the outside temps i can keep my plants flowering 2 weeks longer then everyone else becuse of my pit greenhouse. The only way you can make a pit green house thought is with alot of work and owning the property. It is the idea of the underground green house that keeps people going. great imagination the person who invented the car must have been seen as a mad man befor it worked. it is the imagination that keeps this world running great work and keep it up!!
