being new to growing i made the mistake of over and underwatering. sometimes the top of the soil felt dry and i thought my plants needed more water making it worse.

the only way to really know is get a 3 way testers for 10 bucks from hydrofarms. it has a moisture tester that works well a light meter and a ph tester all in one. its my most important peice of equiptment.

Try to make a schedule that fits the drying time of your pots. I use 5 gal pots and water twice a week, once with nutes, the other with plain water and cal-mag. Don't have it random always plan ahead.

You can also tell by the weight of the pots when dry vs after watering. When the pots are light = water. When pots are heavy = don't water.

I usually feed on Sunday and water on Wednesday.

But if I have to leave town, I find missing a watering hasn't killed any.

just my $ 0.02 :joint::peace:

I use it when watering only because the Fertilizer may already have all what the plant needs for the week and if not that's for the leaves and the pH behavior to tell. When the plants are green and lush and pH slowly rises like it should, I just use water or cut the dosage of cal-mag to a 1/4. I also found some strains don't need it at all.

Do you use cal mag with your nutes as well or just with the second water?
I don't need Cal-Mag, so I don't add it.

I use FFOF and all of 6 their nutes. I have lush green Pre-98 Bubba Kushes and very healthy Blue Dreams. I use city water, and let it sit overnight. I do not have to adjust the Ph when using the nutes.

I try and keep it simple bongsmilie

Fuck lifting the pots ... I am a beginner and am into my second grow with basically no yield from my first bagseed grow (1 plant) , and I had alot of problems with watering .. I usually tend to overwater a little anyway and it never seems to hurt them ... Best thing is to stick your finger in the soil and you'll get a feel for it ... Or if you forget like I do sometimes ... Your girls get really sad and droop , alot , to the point you can see through your canopy. Give them bitches some water, and abracadabra man ... They perk up within a few hours ... Sometimes the soil might seem to stay moist even though its time for a drink, but thats your soil ... Its ok though .. But be careful and think about how many days it was from your last watering. And more light / heat means less time between watering
The pots do get lighter, but when your high and new to growing and worried about every little thing , you make dumb mistakes like I have ... I heard something a ways back on here that I keep with me ... Its not how much you water them , its how often ... (Overwatering) ... Hope this helped - THCHEAD

I really thought I needed a moisture meter in the beginning but its just a waste of $ .. PH / Light I want though ... Those cannot be replaced by my finger . Its nice having a gps , but even better knowing how to read a map
