panty hose over passive intakes?

I have a tent from htg that resembles the dr80 if anyone has seen that tent anyway though there is passive intake vent flap that leaks light in and out very bad at the bottom of the tent.

So i plan to close this vent flap when flowering ... But then ill have no intake. So i was thinking about adding / cuttin my own four 4'' vent intake holes and putting flanges on them to the 2x sides of the bottom of the tent and then one on the back to the right of the passive intake flap (there is a 4'' hole for a flange on the left side of it already. Then i was gonna cover the flange openings with black panty hose... Would these 6 , 4'' holes be enough intake for my 170 cfm fan to pull air through? I only use 1 fan for exhuast / passive intake the tent is about 3 and some feet wide / a foot and some inches deep then bout 5 feet tall.

I dont know how to go about lightproofing this thing ive tried everything from velcro panty hose / clothes hanger rig ups .....They all looked like shit and i refuse to look at trash everytime i open my tent haha. and i dont want another fan cuz i feel comfortable with the ammount of electricity im using right now in terms of safety.

I dont have a tent but my cousin does. What he does on his passive intakes is uses some of that flexible dryer ducting and simply has it come out of the tent and then do a 360 degree loop in the ducting. The loop makes it so no light will come through. I dont know if that makes sense. If not ill try to put a pic together for you.

i get ya, is he just using like plain metal dryer duct? the light doesnt reflect up it? How many ducts and how bad does it restrict the airflow?

I suggest to do something like the guy above my said. A 90 degree angle should do the trick, although you'll want to put a disposable charcoal filter from target or something on the cover to prevent dust and other contaminants from getting in.

ya im thinking of doing something like this and then putting panty hose over the dryer duct (real thin ones just to collect dust particles) depending on airflow if not ill just be bending some window screen around the top or something lol.

Will never purchase a prebuilt tent again...

yea, the plain 4 inch flexible duct from HDepot will work. It should come in 8ft lengths for less than $10. With a 175cfm fan you will have plenty of passive air coming in, once you have installed the ducts, zip the tent up and put your hand by the air entrance and you'll feel how fast the air is moving. I do suggest to use 1 on each side though, and feed them down into the tent so that the air has to work its way to the top (assuming thats where your filter/outtake is)

i have a 4 inch vent on the bottom of tent i can put one in , then i can cut another on the opposite back wall of the tent and install a 4'' flange for the other duct to attach to. and ill test if 2 is enough , if not ill just cut another one. Since the holes will be at the bottom and the carbon filter will be in the center top of the tent , i shouldnt need to feed the hose inside at all right?

er,sorry I forgot the vents are on the bottom of that model (I have one). What I did was put a window screen and disposable charcoal filter (about $12 for 4 @ target) on the end and I just gave enough slack to make a 90 degree angle bend. I had the same size fan,and that was enough for a 250w hps. Fitting the light/fan/charcoal filter on top was a little tricky, but its doable. If you don't have your filter already, I suggest a goblin (i got the slightly large can fan), as they are the smallest I believe on the market, and should do the job.
