On April 2, 2015, Oceanside RCMP executed a search warrant on a business located on the 100 block of Middleton Avenue, Parksville, BC. One staff member was present during the search and was arrested. The 29 year old male was later released on a Promise to Appear in Nanaimo Provincial Court.
The Oceanside RCMP will be forwarding a charge of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking against the male. Considering the nature of the business, investigators located a quantity of marihuana products inside the store. Police seized dried marihuana, along with other marihuana derivatives, products and cash.
Marihuana continues to be regulated as a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), which the RCMP has an obligation to enforce, where grounds exist. The action taken against this business is as a result of their alleged failure to operate within the current legal framework available to Canadians under the Medical Marihuana Access regulations (MMAR).
'All businesses in our community are expected to operate within the law. In a case where they are alleged to not be doing so, we have a responsibility to our community to take action", states S/Sgt. Brian Hunter of the Oceanside RCMP.
The investigation is ongoing.
All inquiries relating to medical marihuana production and use should be directed to Health Canada.
