Partial harvest and trichomes question!1st time harvest need advice!!

Hello! This will be my first harvest ever and i would like some advice from people who already tried to harvest partially.

The top of the cola seems to be already done! Checked under the microscope and it has around 20% amber trichomes on the bud(not sugar leaves) but the lower buds have more work to do, due to the fact that she has grown really tall and the lower buds didn't have as much access to the light source as the main cola.

I have already picked and tested a small bud near the top with trichomes being all milky. Quick-dried it for 3 days and rolled a small blunt. It was potent as hell. Like really really potent, to the point it was uncomfortable at least for the first hour or so until it mellowed down for the next 3-4 hours. Now this might be due to the fact that i had to smoke for 6 months and i jumped straight into a pretty potent strain. But that was some DMT stuff(i almost had visuals when i had my eyes shut and i have never tried DMT). phew!

The bad thing about it was that the high was only heady. Didn't feel it at all in my body.

So two questions. The first one is do I wait for more amber trichomes to get this body relaxation high, or is it only strain dependent and the amber trichomes is only "fake body high,broscience-better chop now" thing?

Second question is where do I exactly chop the main cola if I feel it is ready? Do I hard chop The main stem(pic related) or pick the small branches of buds connected to the main stem? Will the lower part of the plant continue to live and grow if i cut the main stem from the middle and up?

Thanks

Just chop the ripe colas off and lower your light a bit to let the lower ones ripen. Lots of amber will mellow the harsh so it's not so speedy. Amber indicated THC is breaking down to CBN which induces sleep and that 'couch lock' feeling tho with really speedy pot it will just take the edge off. I had some Kali Mist like that so crossed it with NL#5 and that was pretty good. I'd get an anxiety attack from the Kali alone that would last 15 min or so then it was all good.

I mostly grew sativas for 15 years and the last 5 have been growing more indicas and CBD strains for their medicinal value. Eat a lot more than I smoke now too.

Good luck!

Every chemotype has its assortment of terpines, that have varying effects on human physiology. You wouldn't go into a drugstore and ask fir a "blue" pill for a headache. Each chemotype has its own maturation strategy. Perhaps the reason you said, "Didn't feel it at all in my body" is because the chemotype itself lacks the Caryophyllene that you experienced previously. Caryophyllene is an CB2 receptor of the human CBS.

Amber trichomes, depending on the terpine stored in it, are in a final bio-degradation process. Their amber color is an indication of how long you've allowed the plant to mature. The couch lock is simply an indication that you've allowed the plant extra time to synthsize dominate terpine Myrcene. The amber trichomes themselves do not necessarily contain the Myrcene terpine. Their more of a clock for the development of the non-degraded terpines. The extra time may be better spent in the curing process, where the terpines oxidize and become terpinoids and have yet more varied effects.

There are some Chemotypes that have so much Myrcene that you don't have to wait to get the couch lock.

That is very informative! I am growing Gorilla cookies and from a quick google search i found that the dominant terpene is Caryophyllene! So i guess that in order to get the desired couch lock effect is to leave it to mature a bit more, like get 20-30% amber and cure it for 3+months right?

Good info above. For some reason this happens to a friend a lot. He harvests partial plants often with great results. Just harvest what is ready (you can cut the main stems with no issue) and leave they rest to ripen.

Or you can do what I did and buy a bottle of Beta Caryophyllene and use that to enhance the levels in oils. Still haven't used any yet but will soon be making some concentrates and will try some then. Not sure if it can be used with bud tho maybe mixing some with EverClear and spraying on the buds is an option.
