It can indeed!! Most people don't realize that but it can. My older brother punished me when I was 5 years old for drinking out of the water pitcher in the fridge. He made me drink a gallon of tap water. I puked my guts out over and over and over; I didn't realize how close to dying I came until many years later.

FWIW, I've seen this more than once especially during periods of intense rapid dehydration in arid climates. Military preaches proper rehydration and it's no joke. Same would apply when trying to flush and could cause a electrolyte imbalance (hyponatremia).
