Pc fan carbon filter idea

So I've had trouble finding a way to add a carbon filter to my grow box without straining the crap out of my pc fan. So I came up with this idea that so far I haven't seen done.

My theory is that if the pc fan's filter has more surface area to draw from the less strain that is going to be put on the fan. Everything I tried had basically one sided intake (imagine a cube; one one side is drawing in air)

Now for my idea: take carbon infused pads for aquariums (mine is about 1/2 inch thick with nice ammount of carbon in it) cut 5 squares all the same size, glue them together to form literally a carbon pad cube that will fit snugly over my pc fan. This will maximize potential air intake and thus put less strain on the pc fan and keep it quiet.

I will probably try this in a day or two. I will also get the brand name of the carbon material.

Ideas? Opinions?

I personally think the resistance will be too much and won't do much good, but who knows. Give it a try and let us know :)

Just pay attention to the heat of the fan motor. If it strains too much, it could overheat.

It's a pretty interesting idea. Though I fear that not enough carbon in that setup to be effective. I really like the idea of it being able to be popped onto the fan, this would make replacement easy when it's spent.

Anyway I would suggest that the middle be filled too, not just a hollow cube, so maybe just cut some more squares and plop them in the middle too. Wouldn't have to glue the middle squares either probably.
