PC fans with speed controller wiring

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how, and if it's possible, to wire this speed controller to a pc fan/ 12V plug setup.



Voltage input：12V
Voltage output：5~12V
Current output：1.0A (Max)
Max Power Output：12W


Thanks to anyone that can help me out

Would you connect the white 3 pin to the fan and then remove the black connector and wire it to the 12V cable? Anyone have any input??

Nope, to use the speed controller you need to rig a computer power supply to run by itself just plugged into the wall. Goes Wall-power supply-controller-fan. I have 6 pc fans connected to a controller inside my growdrobe :)

don't listen to this guy, he is wrong. i used to use some computer fans that ran off a old 1amp walwart from a router. cut off the black molex connector. wire up the black to ground and the yellow to 12v hot. the red wire is for 5v hot, but since you are using 12v fans it is not required.

Thanks for your reply. I found this diagram.



Here it shows connecting the black molex to the 3pin on the fan and then the white 3pin of the controller to the motherboard. In this case, would I cut the white end off and wire it to the power adapter? The fan will also have 1 spare 4 pin connector if I would go with this setup, if this makes any difference.

yes. my bad. it is the white one you want to snip, not the black. the 4 pins ones are used for fans that relay rpm speed back to the motherboard. if you are running 12v fans you only need to worry about yellow (hot) and black (neutral).
