NO, you were correct in doing this IMO. THAT is the mark of a good dad. Especially raising a son into a MAN. Too many mommies around now a days. Many younger men I've seen around parent like women. What a shame. Worse is when other ppl (usually busybody moms) poke there noses in other ppl's business.

I could hug you.

The family went shopping. The kids acted up. We get to the movie rental place. I agree for the kids to pick a movie a piece. Not to watch until they calmed down. In the meantime I said no to them getting a gumball out of the machine. They were still acting up.


This woman walks up and says "Here I got some quarters, I'll get them some gum balls."

I told her "It would be best for you to mind your own business and let me handle my kids before I get angry." She was like "How rude!"

I said "No! What is rude is you sticking your damn nose where it don't belong."

Can't stand people like that.

I always ask "Are you ok?" If she says yes then I don't do anything else.

If she cries I give her a hug. If she is bleeding or scraped up I pick her up and hold her for a bit until she calms down.

Most of the time she doesn't cry. Sometimes even when she has scraped her toe to the point of bleeding.

If you teach the child that you are there when she needs you early, then they trust your judgement on what is a boo boo and what is something to brush off.

They say you can't spoil your child with affection the first year. That time is all about building trust.

Some people would rather spoil the kid rotten then listen to them whine. There are boundaries in the real world. Giving them treats when they are misbehaving doesn't teach them about consequences. It makes them feel entitled to whatever they want.
