pH of soil water runoff - what should it be?

I measured my runoff from pots today using water I balanced to 7.0 ph.

The runoff from most where about 6.0-6.3, one was 5.79.

Is this the value of my soil ph?

These numbers are not near 6.5-7.0, so I added about a teaspoon of dolomite lime just under the top soil. Is this the right thing to do?

Is this the correct way to adjust the ph back up? Most guides say to add the lime to the potting mix, but it's too late for that now.

I do believe the PH of the run off is your soil plus nutrients and water. Yes most people do add dolomite lime to their mixes even at nurseries and major distributors. It does maintain balance for the most part. I guess you will find out next test. Most people use anywhere from a teaspoon to a tablespoon of lime for each gallon of soil but really it depends on what you have in the mix. I hope you started off small, then test, add if need be, and then you can get a good idea what you will need for the long run. That's about as off as you would want to get before it is all downhill. I mean 1 point is easily adjustable.
