I had a lot of problems with my tap water when I started. The city where I live, I found out, puts in quite a lot of buffer raising the alkalinity and pH up significantly to around 8.9. I was having no luck whatsoever on my first grow. I found that even though I was using pH down to get it between 6.0 and 7.0, it was rising back up within an hour or two.

Ultimately, to get a handle on it I had to install a reverse osmosis system. Now, just 2 to 4 drops of pH down puts it right where it needs to be and it stays there.

Let your medium dry out between waterings before watering again. Check the weight of the pot before and after so you know when it feels light, meaning it's time to water.

If you're not using it in your soil, make sure to add extra large perlite to the mix, at least 20% of the overall mix to make sure it drains well and doesn't leave your roots drowning for hours.

I've been trying to sort out the ph before I put it in the soil. Should I be checking the soil rather than what I'm putting in?
Thanks
No... There is no need to check your ph the soil will adjust it. If it was coco or hydro then yes you need to because they are for the most part inert mediums. Soil will alter the ph for you.

Thank you I appreciate the help. Some people seem on here find it hard to just answer a question without being rude or make feel stupid. I'm just trying to learn that is all

It depends on the day. These people answer a lot of the same questions day in and day out and it gets tiring.

Sometimes you need to put up with that if you want real advice. I am just as guilty of it. Today just happens to be a good day lol.

Ok so I’m beginning to see all my problems... I’m almost about to get my 1 year growers certificate...

I’ve been adding coco to my soils..2:2:1
Fox farm ocean ... loco coco .. perlite..

One minute I’m phing the next I’m not...
From now on I’m just gonna use just soil..a good soil... leave it at that...but when I do any sort of things coco... I will ph... still get a good soil... and feed the soil..

Also I’m thinking to up pot during flowering with the soil suitable for it... I’m tired of complicating shit...

My plans was water only.. just forgot to have the soil balanced..
