Picking a Cob LED, Not sure what i need

Hello,

This is my first build and i am trying to do things right the first time around.

I am hoping to get some cob lights for my first grow in a 2 X 4 X 5. I hope to get 6 or more ounces a harvest with however many plants would be best to get that. 2?4? I am not sure yet TBH.

I am trying to make a decision between the

Tasty T2-V362

and the

Johnson CX-4

They both seem like amazing lights, but i am trying to figure out if they would work in my tent for my needs, or if i would need bigger. I figure if i do 2-4 plants i wouldn't be using much more than a 2 X 2 space in the tent.

I like the look and build of the Johnson lights but it wouldn't be the best design for your fixture. It covers a 3x3 and you have a 4x2, so its chucking a lot of light at you walls and not much at the end of your tent.
The tasty I would be bothered about it been an 18" long unit so how the light distribution mapping would look I can only guess.
Johnson do a photon 250 which may fit your space better.
Also timber do a pre assembled 400w kit here http://timbergrowlights.com/400-watt-vero29-v7-linear-framework/
or a 300w kit http://timbergrowlights.com/300-watt-vero29-v7-linear-framework/ That would be what I would buy, good light for the money and spot on for your tent size and shape.

Sorry to those Tasty and Johnson, all your lights are awesome, I just think this one would suit better.

Thanks for the input. If i got a T2 i would eventually get another T2 down the road.

But i want to make sure a single T2 can hold its own in my tent and grow a few plants.

Oh the T2 will most definitely hold its own and grow you some cracking plants. You will be good for 2x3 space with the one unit. Its good value too.

Awesome dude, i actually might just spring and get the T3-V484 unit. I think that one unit would slay my tent with 4 plants. I hope at least.

Hello, i already have a setup with 6X23w cfl +1 200w 8u cfl, and i wanted to add some more light to the grow..i was thinking about a normal led from 300 to 600w what u guys advice?
But still dont know which type of led should i take, is the COB the best thing i can get, or those one with 3w chips?

I am still new. But from all the information i have gathered over the last two weeks, it seems COBs are the best. You get more performance for less wattage because of the design. Expensive, but becoming much more affordable now. It seems blurple lights (regular red and blue led's) are eventually going to be replaced with COB (chip on board). COBs are still LED's as well not a different lighting.

I just ordered one from TastyLed's. The T3.

The 3 watt panels i think you are referring to fall into the blurple category and they also make 5w chips as well. They can be had for cheap by a few solid companies. They usually are not great for using alone in a grow, but will still work from the many grows i have seen. Not sure since you have CFL's how they would work in your particular setup though :/

I am going with a full COB setup and not looking back.

I read a post somewhere that cfl and led work very good together, they complement themselves..but i m looking for something inexpensive around 100bucks, i was thinking something like marshydro the question wich one 300/400/600?
i have a 3ftX3ft growbox..

Marshydro, Viparspectra, and galaxyhydro are the ones in your budget pretty much and in the 300-450 range for wattage. The viparspectra are blue heavy spectrum and lacking red for heavy flowering. The others i am not sure but seem to lean towards the red spectrum. I can say the viparspectra is extremely well built having it in my hands.

How is your grow going with the current setup? Are you sure you NEED another light source?

From what i hear it is better to have more light than too little, so i am sure it couldn't hurt. I just am not sure in your setup if the money is worth it. It might not make a huge difference and could be a wasted $100 for minimal gains.

After lots of research this week on the cheaper LED's, i decided to return mine and go with COB. The performance just isn't there with the sub $100 cheap LED's. They will work for sure, but how well is the question. But with your CFL setup they might be a nice addition.

I hear u, but probably i want to replace my 200w cfl for the led..i m pretty happy with the 6 cfl dyi but i see a big difference in the light reflecting on the leaves and for 200w it should be better. The grow is doing fine, the ones under the 200w with a bit delay, thatswhy i wanted to make the experience with a different light source but i m looking more for red spectrum for flowering since i m not so far from it..
