Hi all, this was my first grow (all wrong I know now, thanks to lurkin these forums :bigjoint:)

8 x skunk #1 from sensi seeds and 2 unknown in veg room about 6 weeks old, grown in rockwool roof insulation fed with ionics 1 part grow nutes.

Home made multiple 11w cfl reflector, got em £1 for 10! hence using em.

still about 600w = £5 loadsa power! but no room left :-(

so next room.

Ah some room, but lights still cost so,

£10 quid on 11w cfl's and an old building site later 1000+w cfl rig and 150w MH

how to feed?

Also placed bubble pipe under rockwool in grow beds with 2 output air pump for extra air in medum.

Growin big and strong,

switch to 12/12 and wait.......

wait some more.....

ah all finished dryed up to about 7oz, had to move because neighbours noticed a smell, lol :dunce:

Conclusion, done completely wrong with wrong equipment!

So I took the money and after moving realised I have to control smell first!

will post my current grow next.

Now im using a grow tent with a 6" carbon filter and fan, sealed the main rooms door off with rubber strip and a draught excluder brush thing for the bottom and put some air freshener in the hall.

Im in a shared house now and no one can smell it! carbon filters ROCK!

just got a cheap one from e-bay and it works well!

Nice. Seems pretty sophisticated for a first time grow. A lot nicer than mine, haha, I need more space! Where did you find those cfl lighting strips? I tried making one with a regular power strip and those plug in adapters but the outlets are too close together.

lol, dont think they would make such a thing! I just re-used plastic from a window ledge drilled holes with a cone cutter, glued in with no-nails and then soldered all the contacts on the back of the bayonet fitting by hand.

reasons I DONT recomend it!
1. unless your good at soldering u probaly WILL start a fire
2. due to temperature of the bulbs and close proximity they over heat and blow VERY fast (about 2 a week!)
3. most of the light is shining on the bulb next to it so efficiency is rubish

but give it a go, If ya mad like me!

Well I guess if you turned the whole thing 90 degrees so the sides of the bulbs are facing instead of the top it would increase the efficiency a little.

I did horisontal bulbs on my first attempt as i belived this to be the case. I used drainpipe and lined with mylar but i found hanging a cfl vertically is better, Jorge Cervantes said same in a vid I see after my tests.

But to be honist it is a bad way to grow as you need to bring the lights to the plants. have a look at my current grow in my signature im startin to get there now.

Just my oil cooled 600w and 5-50 micron spray aeroponics setup next!

thanx for lookin m8

that looks pretty good. i bet that smelled like a basterd. ive got one great white (superskunkxnl or ww) and it stankks up my whole house. and i cant belive how many ppl use cfls and just to go right to hps or mh. it is a great way to learn the ways of the reefer plant, but nothin can come close to a real light. although i do recomend cfls for clones or even a mother plant to chill next to

Sativasamuel, I got the CFL's from a pound shop, 10 x 11w for £1 (think the government subsidized cost to get us to use em in england as they have now baned incandesant bulbs!) Government subsidized grow felt good! I "found" the 150w mh at a building site, lol

Bad nugbong, It stunk out the whole block and I had to move! I changed from cfl's to 600w hps and 150w mh, but I do believe cfl's can be as good if you used T5's and a scrog?

hi x the way i got around the smell if you aint the room for carbon filter,is get a small bucket with a lid,buy a pc fan from any pc shop cut a hole 10 mm smaller than the fan screw to the lid.then fill with fabreese adour eater.turn fan on (make sure air is blowing out the bucket not in) this process should take approx 1-2 days to aradicate the smell.hope this works for you as it did for me

Love the DIY, but if you love your liberty I would stick with the Carbon Filter & keep a a spare.

Ta man, I like to make stuff to :-)

ya question about the roof rockwool is yes. it contains anti mold chems, I soaked it in a bath of strong bleach with hot water then flushed wiv loads of water to leach the chems em out, I found it cleans up good enough to grow without probs, :-) but use at ya own risk, lol
