Hey parasite, sub'd up man. This will be a good thread to follow.

My opinion on hardware, keep it simple and clean.

I'd hard wire the camera and record to an external hd. I like the added security of being able to destroy the evidence easily. Maybe overboard for legal grow, but I'm always thinking about security and exit strategy.

Good luck on the grow.

That's some very useful information, guys. I appreciate it! I was a little weary of doing it myself. Now, I'm going to go ahead and just drop the whole idea. I can't even start to imagine how bad things could get if someone got ahold of any of those shots, and could prove they came from my computer. I mean, I am CA Medical Compliant, and 100% legal, but, still. I don't need any extra drama. Who wants to spend years collecting gear, dialing it in and then just wind up getting "Carlos Dangered" by some 20 year old hacker with a penitent for blackmail. No bueno. Haha.
Or you could get a fixed camera video recorder sheltered from the environment, camouflaged into enviro as well.
Who needs the trouble of wireless or running cable to feed monitor. Collect the recorded video from a memory card place in a PC not connected, edit it to protect your location and identity. Find an open wifi at a business, sit outside in a car and upload photos. I know more work but hey it can be done!

do the roots stay in the water,or just get flushed, interesting, never watched video of it
Roots sit in the 30 gallon resevoir (filled with 20 gallons of nutrient solution) and a submersible pump cycles it from the res - through a filter - to the roots - then it drips back into the res. RDWC stands for Recirculating Deep Water Culture. I read a lot about Drain-to-waste (self explanatory) and it has some advantages. Great if your having resevoir temperature issues. DTW can handle higher temps better. But, all things being equal, I didn't think it would be as suitable as a big recirculating system. Easier to control ph, and temperature fluctuations. I like to get my money's worth when it comes to nutrients, and supplements. Some of that stuff can burn a hole in your pocket. And, DTW it has the word "waste" right in the title. Haha.

You and Pros may be on to something there. I would really like to be able at least have a record of what's going on in the tent if I can't get away with streaming, and having a memcard or hard drive connected properly sounds like it would give me the privacy I'm looking for. Plus it would make for some really cool video. Get the whole life of the harvest all the way up until chop. Take a pic every 20 mins for 3 months. That would look pretty gnarly. Thanks guys. Looks like a trip to radio shack might still be in order.

grow setup.jpgI didn't read through the entire thread but your setup looks a LOT like mine... perhaps when you re-do it next time maybe you might modify a few things tho: Note how my pump is centered outside the two Rubbermaid tubs, this is for two big reasons: heat & aeration... I've done hydro a while and when I'd loose a tomato due to root rot, well that's a few tomatoes...but loose a primo cannabis plant 4 weeks into flower and one gets pretty pissed; esp when that equals over 2oz of primo bud.... IMHO airstones suck: the back pressure ruins diaphrams and moreover diaphram pumps suck..... also, having the external pump REALLY cuts down on ambient sump temps; basically you aren't using your sump water to dissipate pump heat, instead the air is (I'd rather have the leaves deal with heat than my roots) ... I also like the continual ppm/pH monitoring thing, I have a Gro-Check but also use a Neptune Apex controller for automating a few task (its has programmable integrated task dynamics; long explanation) ...given the cost vs. reliability vs. cost for weed, if it saces ONE grow the $200 is worth it.... anyway, hope I didn't deviate from your thread but contributed ...peace

oh and subbed (p.S ...I tried to edit my prev post as on the re-read it was long winded and "preachy"...but trying the edit function locked it up twice....anyway hope it didn't come off that way) ....pardon the three back to back post and again; peace bro..

Best grow advice ever! Subbed! And I concur re: no webcam. The last thing you need is to have this beautiful set up humming along when someone decides to rip you off when you're at work.
True, but you can monitor via a iPhone app & Neptune Apex....if pH or water levels or temps get outta whack it can send you alerts via email or the app...,moreover you can control most anything remotely via your Android or iPhone.... I'm kinda shocked given the effort, time & investment one grow represents that nobody I can find even is considering it

Your setup looks great, brother. And, don't worry about the triple post. Sometimes I want to throw my phone against the wall after typing out a 5 paragraph response only to get locked out of edit, find out later that it didn't post after I suffered the indginity of 2 sets of captchas.

I did consider an external pump for those exact reasons you stated. I went with a sub because I had originally planned on getting a nice used 1/10 chiller. When I set everything up for a test run, it turns out, that in my super ventilated tent, res temps peak out at 64F on the hottest day. 75F is the hottest I let the ambi's go anymore. Usually, res temps hover from 60-62F during lights on. Also considered an airstone alternative myself. I was thinking about a 2 gallon pan-head air-compressor under the house would be great paired up with a modified "soaker hose" coiled in the res. Felt it was a little excessive. May just add a pond-aerater setup. A little smaller than the compressor.

One thing I think I'll for sure try and add, here, next harvest, will be another 30g remote bucket to mix a pre-prepared batch of nutes in, then time the pumps for an automatic res drain in the control bucket, and then a re-fill from the remote bucket twice a month. May need a digi-timer to work it out just right, but combined with the pH control, all I would have to do is adjust the lighting. Could let her sit practically 2-3 weeks without even laying my fumble-fuck hands on her. Never heard of Neptune Apex. I'm already doing research on it. I was going to use a remote wifi switch, and something similar to Neptune for my AC, heat, and fan speeds that would be controlled from my smart phone. But, you may have me sold on trading-up. Thanks for what was, in all actuality, a great contribution.

Subbed Pinworm, going to follow you and your girls closely.
I have just popped 2 WW myself, waiting for them to break cover today, so will be good to see how yours are doing for comparison.
Also have some NL5xHaze from Sensi, but haven't popped them yet. Will be watching your ladies.
Good luck with your grow and good vibes coming your way.

what I also did for aeration in another setup (my clone/mother plant tent) was use a aquarium powerhead with a "venturi" (a inline airline that draws in air and mixes it via fast moving water)...I used the suction cup of the powerhead to attach it on the side of the res at the water line, the venturi mixes air with water and the power head sprays the water ...the aeration and water movement is way stronger than any airstone and way more reliable ... but I need to start my own thread and enjoy this one ;-)

I looked at a similar device for pools, and koi ponds. Was tough to find one that was compact enough for my needs. Would be perfect for something like a 50 gallon res, though.

If you do, be sure to stop by and post a thread link. Love your ideas, man. Seems like we have quite a bit in common.

Gonna read and follow this one closely sir...
Welcome huang.

heres some shots of my outdoor grow pin , she just dont wanta finnish, week 12 or 13 now, lost track, purpleing up nicely in the cooler weather

Nice colas, JoOb. She looks buff. Running a couple purple phenos myself, at the moment. Can you say Bag Appeal?

Sorry I'm so late to the game here, but so glad I made it. Beautiful setup Pin! Make me feel all old, and analog, LOL. BTW, thanks for the link-in bro, classy stuff. This is gonna be beyond epic man, Sub'd!

Thanks, Myco. Stoked you made it, too. I haven't completely made the switch to hydro. I still love getting my hands dirty. My favorite thing to do is aerate the soil with my fingers. Massage their root zones, while I whisper sweet nothings into their calyxes. Hahaha.

Be careful! I heard thats how you get seeds. All you need is some Barry White and that plant is prego. hahaha.
