Plan 2-3 plants

Hello guys, this is going to be my first grow. I will make a stealth grow closet. Its about 2x3x6ft.

Step1. The Gear.

So I bought this 400w hps lamp

www.amazon.co.uk/Senua-Hydroponics-light-Reflector-Hangers/dp/B00C0ELT54/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1365092587&sr=8-3&keywords=400w+hps

And thinking of buying a ruck fan + rhino filter combo
The 5inch.

The reason I created this thread, is to gain more knowledge, I rushed to much to buy the lamp... sorry. But I need your thoughts, is this okay to start with? Plan is 2-3 plants autoflower. What you think guys?

I'm running the same dimension closet with two 180 watt Blackstars and 6 42 Watt CFLs.
Ventilation will be your big challenge as my rig probably run's cooler than a 400, And I have to move alot of air through or it will be in the mid 90's quickly.
The 6 cfl's put the most heat out.
Temperature gun shows the ballast at about 115 F.
Good luck with your grow !!
And Welcome to RIU !

You may run into a problem with the amount of heat the bulb will put off and being able to circulate fresh cool air in there.
Also 2 - 3 plants in a 2x3 closet seems very tight unless you plan on using some small pots which isn't any good. One plant would probably work best, two if you manipulate them while they grow.
Good luck.

I have 4 that I just switched to 12/12 Monday.
They were topped above the 2nd node at 5 weeks, and they seem to fit fine.
So far !! lol
3 gallon Smart pots.

So the light is ok, just need a stronger fan :/ thats going to cost 70pounds more :/ what if I put 2 pc fans to inhale air at the bottom, keep the balast outside, and put a fan in the middle to circulate air inside?

You will want to run a 'closed-loop" cooling system for the light-- air in from another room/outdoors sucked thru the light and back to the outside/other room..

You then need an intake fan & exhaust fan-- plain old 6" ducting fans works well-- If you bring in air from outside be sure to use filters! you can even make them from a tube of hardware cloth and the fabric off a Hepa Furnace filter! They can be made to the size you want, and are very lightweight... this is to keep out dust, bugs, mites etc... won't help with odors unless you use the charcoal kind....

as long as the light is glassed-in and air cooled- the heat shouldn't be an issue--

Too bad you bought before you asked-- IMO- in closets-- T5's are a better option... no cooling needed-- just intake & exhaust...

I have a passive lightproof vent at the bottom of the door. a Carbon filter up by the ceiling with a 4" ducting going through the ceiling.
In the attic I have a Vortex fan suspended from the rafters pulling the air through and exhausting into the attic.
Keeps the closet in the mid 70's F as long as the room its in is in the low 70's.
I have a heater and air conditioner in their to sustain the correct temp.

T5's grow as well or better than HPS-- I have seen several larger grows with them.. the vegetative stage gets amazingly strong green plants- better than I've seen under MH or HPS...
In flower- the only time they do not do well is when people are too cheap to get the extra bulbs!
You use all blue (usually included with the light) in veg- then replace 1/2 of them with the "red' blooming bulbs for flowering for a wider spectrum of light.

People are always fast to say "that won't work" IF they haven't seen it for themselves ... Even CFL grows can work well with enough bulbs of the right wattage... you just have to know how much output and the color to use, and to ALWAYS increase the light going into 12/12...

;)

What about the wats, in my closet I cant fit more then t5 4bulb, and thats only near 100wats, is that okay? And im growing the autoflower ones :/ are they ok?

autoflowers would work fine and you never even have to change your light cycle. got a link to the light your thinking about?

you could probably go with 2 or so autos. and go ahead and get a mixed spectrum that way you are set. you could try 2 or 3 and see how it goes if you have to you can get a few cfls to put on the sides if you find you dont have quiet enough light. i myself havent done t5 grows but have read alot about them. make sure you put up some nice reflective material all around your closet and get a little oscillating fan to go in there. if you are worried about smell you will need to set up a carbon filter in there.

I will put carbon filter anf at the bottom couple inhale pc fans with filter from dust and bugs. What kind off reflective material is best, easy fit. And not that expensive. ?
