planning first grow

I've heard cutting it helps a lot, but can't speak from personal experience yet.

This is my seedling, sprouted directly from uncut happy frog. Next time, I'll probably cut with perlite and dolomite. Good luck!

Yup, cut up your soil with perlite, it's what I do and I haven't burnt a seedling since my newb daze.

im hoping to buy seeds by monday because of attitudes sale. i want something short to medium with good yields. i want a cross but it will probably have to be mostly indica because of my height restriction. im very interested in dna genetics "la woman" and "holy grail". id love to try there secret sour but its definitely too tall and takes too long. i was also checking out humboldts selection. there "bubba kush" looks pretty good, but there "pineapple skunk" looks awesome. humboldts also alot cheaper. anyone grow any of these strains or have recommendations?

if i went with a 400w hps/mh would i be able to have the plants about 6in away?

ok ive decided on going with a 400w hps with a cooltube because of my height limitation. im going to be scrogging 4 pineapple skunks from humboldt. i drew up a quick sketch of my room on paint lmk what you think. there is only one vent in this attic so im going to run my a/c hose to it. should i worry about fresh air? heres the legend for the pic i drew. 1) exhaust fan 2) vent 3) a/c unit. im going to have the a/c unit outside of the room but will make a inlet in the side.

I am sure that the ambient air in that space can be drawn into the tent.

In an attic, I am sure that heat would be my main concern.

"Humboldt Pineapple Skunk" That sounds so nice.

I am from So Cal and Humboldt was always our pot-mecca.

someone just told me only grow one and veg for longer instead of 4. would there be any reasons for this?

Well, this is a great point....I think that that poster was giving you
honest advice, as they see it.

This question is just not one for which there is one fixed/best answer.

I imagine that for any number/approach/technique for growing, that
one could then imagine a situation or need that might call for it.
(i.e. How many plants, how are they situated, and how they are raised)

A more seasoned grower might be able to suggest that sorts of slight
differences (in yield, flavor, speed, etc) that the different approaches
might affect.

My first suggestion is that you try all methods and see what works for
you. This is silly because we are talking about the effort of years in that
case.

So, just divide-and-conquer. Re-pose the question to compare specific
grow approaches, and see what the gray-beards have to add.

I imagine that four plants, vegged less, would end up with more, smaller,
buds, and that the one plant would produce less, larger, buds.

....but the total yield? Not sure. I would lean toward the four plants...
