Plant growing very slowly...help?

I picked out the seeds from some bud I bought and germinated/planted one of them as an experiment. Its been around 3 weeks, and its still very small. I looked online at what other plants looked like at 3 weeks and they were all well developed with several sets of leaves, and in comparison, mine still looks like its in its first or second week. Being a high school sophmore, I don't have the resources for grow lights...or soil. I used some dirt that was going to be moved to our garden, thinking that it must be at least somewhat fertile. I also haven't used any fertilizers, and the plant sits on a ledge under my window on the west side, so it only gets a few hours of direct sunlight. Is the slow growth caused by the lack of light, or could something be wrong with the plant? Also, is there any way to tell if it is indica or sativa at this point?

man, sounds like you're havin a tough time of it. . . well, soil is prob gonna be your main issue. Even though its for your garden outside, its probably lacking in essential nutes that your cannabis is needing. Save up some money quick to get some good soil. Fox Farms is really good. Also, you need perelite (its cheap) for good oxygen in your root system. Its good that you are giving it natural sunlight but if its only getting a few hours a day, supplementing it with even ONE compact flourescent will make a big difference!

I could probably get some soil, but I've read that you want to keep it in the same conditions for as long as possible, and putting it in different soil would mean transplanting it to a new environment now, and then transplanting it again when I put it outside. And I would use grow lights, but I have to worry about my parents finding something like that, and my rooms pretty small, so I have no space for a unit. Another question, I get off from school in about 20 days, and once I'm off I can find time to get it into the sun more often, but would the quick changes in schedule hurt it?

Go to a home depot, lowes, etc, and get yourself a nice bright cfl place her over your little girl there and that should help a shit ton, she just doesn't have enough light, it needs upwards of 18 hours of light a day while it is growing so only a few hours of a setting sun is not nearly enough for her to grow quickly.

You're correct in that you dont want to transplant any more than you have to but in your case. . . the plant wont make it if you dont. Even if the soil is fertile, it doesnt look like it has good airflow. (perelite) If the plant cant get enough oxygen to the root system will rott and the plant will most likely not make it. So your gonna re-plant it in a hidden location outside? You want it to have a strong root system so it will be able to compete with the plants outside for light and nutrients.
A compact flourescent is the curly light bulbs that you can buy at any store. Find a small desk lamp and screw it in and that will be your grow light without anyone being the wiser! As long as you are giving it the same lighting schedule inside as outside, moving it outdoors will only improve the plants vigor. (sunlight is the best light!)

If you live at home and your parents don't want you growing don't grow, if I were you I'd throw it all away and wait till your older, but to be helpful as possible, you need to get that plant more light now, not in 20 days, it will be gone, so either find a hidden place to set up the light to give the plant a chance, then once its getting taler and looking strong plant that outside really hidden so no one but you know where it is

I realize the risk I'm taking, but this may be the only chance I get for the next 10 years. After high school I planned on going into the Marines as an officer, and they uh...frown upon the use of cannabis, and I'm trying to do this while I have the opportunity. Besides that, I already have the location picked out, and I guess I'll try to get a small desk lamp or something until it can survive outside. We also have a deer problem in my area, any tips on that?

Im not sure you realize the entire risk. In an absolute worst case scenario, in my state, if you are busted for growing, selling etc the HOMEOWNER, even if it is a renter committing the crime, can and often does lose their house. Not that I expect your parents to lose their home over 1 lil plant but it is also a respect issue.

Well, I'm growing for personal use, not sale, and we have a fair amount of woods near our property, and the plant will be at least a mile away from the house, so even if its found, they shouldn't be able to link it back to me.
