So i have an auto in a 6" netpot in a 10 gal DWC..the friggan roots and base stem have got so big they split the netpot open up the side in 2 places..hydroton is falling out into the res..What the hell can i do to stop it? i wanted to wrap it in something but with a huge root mass coming out..IDK what i can do. I'm also kinda pissed because i figured these things would last a few grows..it's the 6" net pot built into a bucket lid.....why ...is...nothing...easy...?

I would try to use either pipe cleaners or garbage bag ties maybe even zip ties to weave the split back together for now.
Ive never seen a net pot split before tho.
Good luck

Looks like u put too much hydroten or whatever in the pot.
If the plant is in a rockwell cube or something first i only really cover the top with a few here and there on the sides but leave more room for roots.
I would just stitch that up with something to hold it for now

Nothing in there but hydroton and roots..might still be some of the rapid rooter in there too. I started seed in a rapid rooter, once roots showed i put it in with about 1/2"of hydroton under it then backfilled. to the base of the seedling..after a couple weeks, i trimmed up the bottom of the plant and topped the net pot off with hydtroton. It was pretty fing loose to begin with, i purposely didn't pack it because i knew roots would be filling in... I actually knocked over the young plant a couple times and had to reposition it in the hydroton it was so loose. Ill zip tie/wrap it up and see how it goes..should be another 2-3 weeks..I'm mainly worried about it completely letting go and the plant dropping into the res..

Like i said ive never seen one split like that could be it was a weak one to begin with.
Good luck with it i think the ties should work probably be stronger than ever.

First off- great looking root load. You made a lot of really good decisions. Expanded clay pellets is an ideal DWC media. You have cared for your nutrient solution well and properly controlled temp and environment. 10 gallon reservoir is perfect size for this plant.

Secondly If your concern is about hydroton falling into your reservoir don't be it is 100% PH stable and inert non reactive. The whole purpose of it in your system is to give support to the plant so it doesn't fall over under its own weight. If it falls out on its own that piece wasn't giving support and isn't vital.

Third. Next cycle try 8" or 12" net pots to prevent this and get more useable life out of your equipment.

To summarize - cheers you don't really have a problem at all ignore that shit for the rest of the grow and get a bigger pot next time. And congratulations on loving your girl enough to literally grow pot bursting roots man you rock. Hell save the photos and make a new post bragging i would.

This thing started in a 5 gal dwc..i moved it to a 10 for more capacity so i could go away for a couple days, worked out good because she started sucking water around that time. I'm not worried about the hydroton getting in there..I'm worried it's gonna let go and the whole damn thing will drop..lol.

Funny you mention going to a bigger pot..I'm actually building a system that uses 2" netpots in a SOG setup..so they will be smaller plants..but if i get half the growth i got out of this..well 2" might not handle it..we'll see..i can go up to a 4" netpot in the rails I'm using. Big growth..good problems to have..:bigjoint:

I love SOG as a commercial concept for photo sensitive heavy fruiting annual plants.

Having said that it is my belief that single batch growing adds a huge amount of control to the grower and ultimately produces superior finished product.

The short version is flexibility in nutrition between individual plants and even more importantly advanced harvesting techniques.

PM for a more detailed explanation if ya like.
