Plant numbering system

I've been looking around for a way to come up with a unique way of identifying plants using a coding system which provides enought information about the strain, generation, etc.

Here is my situation: I have three packs of seeds (10) which I purcahsed and I've already started growing (Click for my Growing Journal). I plan on having clones taken off the plants in the veg stage and then rip out the males when I discover the sex in the flowering stage. I'd like to have a way I could identify the strain, clone number and generation with a simple ID code. The three strains I have are Afghani, Tutti-Fruity and XXX-420.

Does anyone have any methods they currently use? Is there somewhere else in life that you've seen an identificaiton method like this?

I number them in order of seed opening. Eventually, you'll end up with a T2, and T5 that are keepers, with a A1, A6, and A8 etc.

I had a M3 and a M6 that I kept for 8 years. They were both Mazars.

Thanks, That did help. Now, let's assume off T2 I get 10 more clones; what would a name them?

T2.1
T2.2
T2.3
...

Why do they need a different number? You could just have 10 T2s, that's all you need to know, is what mother they came from.

this sh*t has really gotta stop. now take all those different #s name 'em things like feast nug, jacks god, mini top, pickle neck, fallen river, super big fat green skank bud, white heaven, yellow ticket, road showers, time laspe, trikle frog, hot pass, free veg, bone figit, mellow gold, hanna tropic and green bud. now take it all out and throw it into the middle of the sales market. my head hurts bad enough already. what ever happened to good ol' HOMEGROWN?

i don't know maybe i'm getting old. it wasn't but 8 years ago when i started hearing about white rhino and bluberry. i've been smokin' since the 70's. i thought they were talkin' about lsd. we always just called it. green bud, mexican, hawaiin or thai. though now with all the hybrids they do each have their own uniqueness. so what do we do?

fantom- personally i think your thought is ingenious. i do kinda the same thing. you never know, sometimes a clone comes out looking better than the originaly mother clone, and this is what the focus is in short: "the best of the best."

TasteBuds: Thank you, I appreciate your comments. I was thinking the same about the best of the best but I wasn't sure if that was true if they all came from the same mother because they should all be the same. Genetically we know they are identical, but I wasn't aware that it was possible for some clones to perform better than others.

Yes they are identical but there are other factors to consider. Light, water, nutes, temp, etc all also need to be taken into consideration. These also factor into the end quality. And of course the one we always seem to preach about ph levels. These can make the difference between good product and awesome product.
