Plant problems under LED

I've been trying to get my buddy into LED and he bought a lamp from me finally. Problem is, the plants are withering under the light. He grows in soil, veg chamber is 3x3. Was previously using a 150w MH lamp.

The lamp I built him uses 4 CXB3070s 3000K 200w output. Lamp was placed about 20 inches above the canopy. Within several days all the plants stems are turning purple and the leaves are banana curling. He pulled most of the plants out but left one in. The plants he pulled out are recovered in the flower chamber. The one he left in looks bad, some leaves are dried up completely. He also has some clones he placed in the veg chamber and they look bad as well. It's only been a couple days and they should look like they just came off the plant, but they're a bit wilted and stems turning purple.

So any opinions on what the problem is?

This lamp you built.... did you remember to apply TIM?

Were these plants in the seedling, vegetative, or budding stage?

Also, how far apart are the COBS from one another? Lenses, reflectors?

Is your friend a fan of Brawndo?

That's so depressing. My plants were dying when I started using LED. I think I had them too close. In veg, I needed to get them at least 24" away.

Too close, too much light, too much heat, or out of whack soil/media that can't keep up with the light

Definitely not the light quality..

3070's at 200w in a 3x3 makes me think they might be too close.

Plants were in veg, about 2 feet tall. COBs are 1 foot apart, no lenses or reflectors.

I have five CXA3070 3000k's at 1400 ma in a 3 x 3 at 10",the COBs are pulling 265 watts.
What kind of temps are in the tent?
LED can require heavier feed,especially mag.

This. They are going to be very hungry under those LEDs. If they dont have the nutes available or the root mass they will go deficient quickly is what I have noticed in my own experience over the past year of growing with COBs.

I was thinking root mass. I don't see how there could be a Mg deficiency 3 days into things, in soil, but if the root system can't keep up with the plants needs it would start to eat itself.

It's a bummer... my first customer is going to want to give the lamp back. He was asking, are you sure they're the right kind of emitters? Some types of light can't grow plants... you know how Chinese stuff is, you never know what you got, etc. etc. so he's going to think the lamp is faulty.

Tell him,

"Operator Error"

What kind of soil is he using , That's what I would find out first. Good luck.

grower error...............cold temps?, wet root mass=== fail

If anything the issue I have with the LEDs I am running is that the plants don't dry out enough (Cloth pots are a must), so I don't think it would be an issue with, temp or lack of water unless there is a major error in set up of the grow area.

I currently have 5 clones Vegging under my 6 Vero 29 4000k and they are super hungry ladies. I would guess with wilting and purple stems that the plants are hungry, they want to grow more that they are needing more N, P and Mg + micro nutrients to keep up?

But I only consulting on the nutrients, my lady really does the magic in that department.

I am adding a picture as reference. This lady was moved out of a smaller pot where she was a good 6 feet below an LED light, much less intensity, into a large cloth pot 24-36 inches below my Vero 29s. Within a very short period of time she developed the issue you see on the lower leaves which was quickly fixed by feeding her some kelp, had to feed her twice within 7 days. And we just fed her again today with some Fish/guano, because she needs something stronger.

If they were vegged under low light conditions they will freak out (leaf tissue damage) when put suddenly into bright light. They will adapt and recover though. Also, they will be hella hungry once they recover.

Why are you selling lights you haven't tested first? You sir are new at this like me don't sell anything untested. I can be a dick but not now. You can't start selling them if you don't know how to use them REAL talk.

Uh, I've been growing with DIY LED for two years... it's no different than what I've been using.

Makes sense, kinda like putting a plant outside in the sun all day when it's never been exposed to it.
