Fat little buggers. I wonder what kind of damage they do. We dont get critters like that in michigan. Just groundhogs,
gophers, chipmunks and moles. the biggest problem we have by far is rabbits

Protected! your kidding me? There's absolutely no reason to protect them they over populate real fast and destroy everything edible and smokable

Well it really does pour when it rains. So I was scrambling to find something to bury as a blocker. Couldn't find my sofit roll so I had decided on chicken wire I had(two great minds think alike GB..one just lags behind the other) left over from building a fence for the same spot back in May for the initial 2 weeks to help keep critters out(hot wire is about the only thing to keep coons out. That's how I've kept them out of sweet corn patches in the past) but the fish emulsion was overwhelming for those masked bandits. So as I'm getting things organized and ready to get after it I stop to eat supper...the weather was on and they were calling for possible high winds and hail tonight between midnight and 3. So I decided to turn my attention to another garden known as The R&R which has my largest plants in it. I broke out a roll of fencing like GB uses except mine is nice and rusty (not that sexy new shit that a West Coaster would buy at Lowes...Nah, I simply drove to the edge of the pasture and broke out a role of fence)...we Middlers keep it simple...And was tending to that until nearly dark. Then I make it out to the honey hole and start digging...and realized the enormity of the job I was tackling....sat down on the ground...thought about everything and thought about how my daughter was waiting to spend the evening together and play some Rummy...I said to myself what's to be will be...If everything isn't wiped out tomorrow then I will put in the chicken wire. I'm physically and mentally exhausted..quite frankly. Oh and some other shitty news but i'm not going to bother sharing it. :wall: Life is full of valleys setting the stage for peaks that are more awesome than otherwise would have been. What's to be will be

I use 2'x 1" in 6' lengths of chicken wire to make 2' Rings when I plant in ground to protect. Gopher holes slant twords the surface and Moles come up vertical just in case that helps you identify.

Use these if you can dig into the warren. Dig a hold and put one facing each direction and do not plug the hole with dirt. The little fuckers will show up to plug the hole and they'll be done.

Thanks a lot brother millwright... After talking with the old man he swears up and down it's not a mole. I have to agree with him because they eat worms, insects, and grubs. Gophers on the other hand love to eat roots. He is like me and having a hard time believing it's gophers because he's never seen them around here. However UofI and the IDNR say they dwell just a a few counties north...so I'm thinking that I have discovered (the hardway) that those little varmits dwell right here now as well. I'm getting ready to get dressed and go see the damage. Then bury chicken wire.

Again I appreciate all the input from everybody..... and the condolences lol.

No more damage as of now. I have yet to bury any blocker. I'm a stickler for fighting against "control freakness". I am enjoying the day with my daughter and will tend to everything with all I've got after she goes home to her Mom's tomorrow. If it's in the cards for me to enjoy a bounty off these plants it will happen gophers be damned. I will prob bury blocker tomorrow or possibly today if there is any damage when I check mid afternoon. I'm not wasting anymore time or energy on something I only have the illusion of control over. Getting a big deeper than I typically do on front street but that's what is going on. I'm also pulling back for a while on my threads. I need some time for an inward inventory of myself. Fact is I don't typically do things halfheartedly. I tend to be hot or cold and I'm spending to much time on here for my liking at the present moment. I will be dropping in periodically to post up. Thanks again for the opinions peeps. :peace:
