planter holds water too long?? help?

i have watered this plant with 1/4 gallon of water/big bloom, only 2tbsp per gallon, and the plant itself is growing great, aside from the lower deformed leaves  but i watered this plant around 2 weeks ago, the soil is still very moist and compact....theres also been some green algae that has formed ontop the soil, i have been trying to dry out the soil, so i stirred the top outter edges around the plant for better aeration, and the plant goes outside every morning, and comes inside around 7-8pm and is put under some lamps, why cant i get it to dry out? is there any suggestions on how to help with this? and what consequences do i look to face? im a bit worried about root rot atm :wall:

anyhow.......some pics

thanks to those of you who have come to help in advance, its very much appreciated

Yeag, I think ya have a problem. Water is going to go anarobic after a while. I would add pearlite to whatever medium you have it in now and transplant it into a little bigger pot unless I'm missing something. should turn it around within 24 hrs. mabey sooner

the deformed leaves are almost certainly nutrient burn.
back off the concentraion by 50% and slowly ramp back up untill you burn it again. No big deal. If you don't burn em once in a while you can't know the upper limit.
Easy to fix even if it's severe by simply rinsing the nutes out and starting over with a less potent dose of nutes.
good luck

Thanks doser, I was quite puzzled by those leaves :p

What does anaerobic mean exactly? I have the plant in a big enough pot, I'm growing the dinafem fruit automatic strain, which is an autoflower, plenty room for root growth, I may look into this pearlite solution though, ummm...my soil is aerated n pourous so I think the roots can breath, the plants growth has been good daily, no stunting, so would I be safe to just leave the plant alone for the next month, as it will be about 6weeks to finish it's cycle, and let the plant absorb the moisture as it need and continue letting the sun work on the soil aswell? I'm not sure how serious of a problem I have here, but I don't want to fuck my chances of a harvest, already had deer kill 6 purple widows, and this is kinda end of season backup plan lol, I do appreciate any and all feedback, thanks guys

if the water stays then all of the oxygen in the water gets used up. leaving your medium open to all kinds of fungi and most likly root rot. perlite is what you need friend, your problem is not serious now but it can quickly go that way.

alright, i will pick up a bag of miracle grow perlite tomorrow/monday........now how do i go about removing the plant from the soil without stressing or killing it, and adding the perlite to the mix? best and easiest way would be great

yes, ontop of the drainage holes it originally contained, i have drilled extra holes underneath, and throughout the bottom of the sides of the pot, its a 3gallon pot....not sure if this has much to do with it, im thinking its more the shit soil, as its just soil collected from the woods mixed with some bag of mulchy shit, i didnt think much of it, prob shouldnt had been a cheap ass n just got a good bag of soil, or used some sand in the soil

i checked tonight, putting my finger in the soil, i would say the first 3 inches are slightly damp, but lifting the container, u can tell theres water being stored in the bottom of the pot

its easy just get your new pot n soil mix ready, then working from the outside in work your fingers around the plant a few inches away from the stem(digging a moat type hole) wider the beter as to not damage any root mass, once root ball/soil ball removed you can gently remove any overly wet soil. then into new pot+soil mix. then personaly wouldnt water for a day or so after.

Great :D
I'm going to lowes tomorrow, gunna pick up some miracle grow perlite and miracle grow organic choice and fix shit before I destroy my only crop, I really do appreciate those of u who have dropped in to help a fella out, u didn't have to but u did, and it's been so greatfully appreciated!

good luck, post up results, good or bad, we all might learn something

We're all up into learning stuff here in my own private Idaho

Doser....I will be updating this thread with the results :D hopefully it will help others too, it's helped me a great deal

As for moisture control, it's safe to say I'm avoiding any products with the words lol, I think I have a soil here that can stomp all those moisture holding soils lol, just unfortunate it holds far too much moisture n for far too long :p

Got a bag of ABS Greenworld all purpose potting soil and a bag of Miracle Gro Perlite, mixed about 70% soil 30% perlite, I did give it some water though, as the heat in NC is damaging atm, we will see how it goes and I will update within the next couple days :D

That sounds right. But I dont get WHY the pot is not draining? What kinda pot is it? One drain hole in the bottom or several around the bottom edge? Plastic?

Sometimes pots with just one drain hole get stopped up. Try sticking something into the hole to make sure it's draining. Adding perlite to the sil will def help a lot--it keeps the soil light.

Has about I will say....8 smaller holes on the outer edge of the pot, and a medium hole in the middle, the planter is plastic

I stuck it out in the sun, but pulled it inside, it's leaves all curled up, n with this heat I don't want em drying out....the plant go into shock? Or is she dying on me?

could possibly be some heat stress from takin it in and out... are u puttin it under a fluorescent light at night? because if u are goin from that cool light to a hot sun can cause some temperature stress. but i was gonna say when u do water u should water with some hydrogen peroxide to add oxygen to the roots. get some 3% h202 and do about 1-2tsp per gallon of water.

I don't think it's that, I do put it under lamps at night, and it goes out bout 6am, gets used to the heat by the time sun rises, and when I have it inside it's in an uninsulated attic, so it's used to outside temps, might be that after transplating I shoulda left it in the shade for a few days instead of straight into sunlight? And should I leave the leaves as is? Or cut em? There's new growth coming from the stalk so I'm not to stressed aslong it's not dying

Bump!! What should I do with the damaged leaves? Cut the dried tips? Cut the leaf from it's stem? Leave them be? Help plz :p I'm lost n unsure what's best at this point
