Planting clones right next to eachother 5 gallon bucket??

Hi I have a 5 gallon bucket system that I would like to use.
I have one question though. The system only has one entry for plants in the middle. Is it okay if i put say two or three tall clones in the same spot?
I know this place that has long tall clones so I was thinking just Jam a couple in there and flowering as soon as they're in.
Would this work??

not really, as they get bigger they will choke each other out as their roots fight over space nutrients and water. Only the strongest will survive

Is this necessarily the case? I mean i will put them to flower as soon as I get them so I dont think the roots will grow that much?
