i have went through 3 bagseeds and all failed. all germinated with paper towel method. they all germinated with a very nice white tails. they looked very healthy from my POV. i planted one of them with the tail up.. the other two tail down.. all of them 1 1/2 in in the soil. i would water with spray bottle filled with distilled water. very lightly when top of soil is dry.. but i would always keep it moist.

my materials?

i have a one 42 watt 6500k cfl
i use 75% kellogs organic potting mix and 25% miracle grow perlite.
i use distilled water since ive heard thats the best for when you dont have a ph meter available.

my room maintains a temperature between 75 and 80 degrees.
i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong! and its really driving me nuts because ive taken a lot of time to learn and succeed at a grow. Well maybe someone can help me learn a bit more so i can get goin!
thanks ahead of time!

1-tap root goes down
2-planted way too deep, bout the depth of pencilling eraser is fine.
3- move that light way up u.til they pop the soil
4- dampen soil and leave alone til dry

Everyone does things a little different, I think because they found something that works for them. So what works for me is,
I usually don't do any germination methods, I just put a seed about 1/4 inch deep into soil, cover with soil, then keep the surface moist for a few days, but when it pops out make sure you don't over water. If nothing happens after a week or 10 days I might go searching for the bean. It might have molded, it might be about to sprout, if it looks exactly the same then I might scuff or soak.

Good luck!

Well for one, drop the paper towels. Just plant them directly in the soil.

Next, they shouldn't be 1 1/2 inches deep. Way to deep for them. They'll use up the energy they have stored before they can ever make it up to utilize light.

Soak your seeds in room temp water for 12 hours or until they sink. You can tap them every once in a while to see if that sinks them. Once they sink you'll know they've taken in moisture and will be popping soon. If they don't sink then they probably have air in them and they're probably duds.

Once they sink it's time to prep your soil. Give the soil a good watering until you see runoff. Poke a hole into the soil about 1/4 inch deep. I never go any deeper. Place your seed in the hole and gently cover it with moist soil. Remember not to let it be burried more than that 1/4 inch!

Now here's the hardest part.... LEAVE IT ALONE!

At this point the moisture from the soak has activated the seed and it will pop all on its own. If you'd like you can mist the top if it seems dry. Otherwise the rest should happen naturally.

The tap root grows fast once it sprouts so you probably don't need to water as much as you think. It'll go down looking for moisture.

This info is all from UncleBen. He has a faq I was trying to post but couldn't find it. Its what I use and has never let me down. Ill post the link if I come across it

i like the germination method! but im thinking i should plant directly in the soil without germing like STAINK and HYdro recommended. ive heard that germinating methods can mess with the natural process to peak full potential( as much as possible with a cfl haha)

hey thanks for the info so much. i was thinking that my light was too close and was causing the soil and seed to dry out. but now thinking about it, it really doesnt need light til it has sprouted since all the energy to sprout is stored in the seed.. right? and another question!! i have been on a 24 hr schedule. should i use 18/6?

Yep. There's definitely a lot of false info. That's why I suggested UncleBens methods. He's an actual botanist. The guy actually sells grapes to wine companies among other niche crops

Thank you. Just dropped two in water and they sunk. One had been in a towel for about 12 days and another I found on my bed just earlier. planted in red 16o cups and a coco blend from blue moon organics in oregon.
