planting seeds

So I've been getting seeds for years and always just wet soil, poked a small hole and covered it back up and I've done pretty well. Some seeds pop within a few days and some later or not at all.I have a question pertaining the best way to get seeds to pop,and then when they do,do you just put the seed with tap root in the medium and which way or do you attempt to have the tap facing up or down?Anybody ever get 100% propagation?

I've always germinated seeds directly in potting mix. Most recently I had 1 out of 14 seeds not germinate and they were verging on a few years old. They still came up in about 3-4 days.

Fresh seeds just sow directly into whatever media you plan to grow in. The depth of the media should be at least 4", because that's about how much the taproot is going to protrude shortly after sprouting. Smaller containers will also dry out quicker depending on conditions. Pre-moisten the media, make a hole about half an inch deep. If you use your finger that should be not quite to your first knuckle (depending on the size of your hand). Don't bother trying to orient the seed in any particular fashion. Not only is it likely to shift, be cannabis seeds actually germinate in such a way that they will orient themselves while shedding their seed casing. Just water thoroughly and put them somewhere warm. Drain any run-off remaining in the tray after about ten minutes or so (don't leave containers sitting in stagnant water).

Do not use a dome. Using a dome could lead to damping off which is an infection that can kill the seed before or shortly after it germinates. This is more likely if the temperature is too cool.

Do not soak your seeds. Unless perhaps they're old stock (over a couple years old), in which case the embryo might have dried out a tad and soaking briefly may be beneficial.

Warmth is probably the single greatest factor, though. Ideal temperature is above 70 F, lower 80's is fine and should speed germination. If the environment is cool, either use a heat mat and/or keep lighting on from the start. A T5 fixture for example just a few inches from the soil surface should warm it up.

Thanks for the post.I did some looking around in roll it up.seems to be a couple good seed sewing threads. Most agree that the seed shouldn't be too deep and soil needs to be kept moist but not too moist.Ive always used the soil method, mother nature knows best in some instances however she can afford to lose a few where's most of us paid mpney and cannot.I just pulled my dome....thanks.on day 6 now.should be seeing something.$160 worth of dynasty,Professor P's gear.i have a few I didn't plant for backup but ive always come out with something and get at least 1 female.CMON SEEEEEDS!!!!!!!have a good one.
