Great tips. thanks a ton man. I'll definitely take your advice. Unfortunately i just paid rent and I'm broooke. The hay and calmag will have to wait for a few days....but I'm flushing
Place cardboard on top, many layers, wet the cardboard....FREE
Epson salt for your magnesium, no need for calmag.......way cheap
If you can't pull that off then you probably shouldn't be growing.
Hell skip the Epson salt/Calmag and just add water everyday, feed once a week. Buy the Epson salt when you can.
You'll be fine.

Awesome thanks. I climb for a small tree service. We've been a little slow this month but I'll get the Epsom salt and use some spare cardboard.

65 gallon pots ! in the sun! wow they must be cooking!

Lot's of work but I would bury your pot's in the soil. My pot's got so hot the roots
contracted and pulled the root ball away from it. I bury it at least half way down
every year.... Pain in the ass

I have also found using cardborde and duct tape helps alot also if you have any above ground pots wrap that shit around them, helps whole lot. and the other method digging holes half way and putting straw all around them.

Update: All but one has came out of it and are on their way to becoming decent little bushes. I've been watering them everyday with no food at all besides a couple doses of calmag. I wanted to get hay but just havent yet...the calmag i got lucky because my neighbor hooked me up with some. Thanks for all the advice. @treemansbuds @Joedank @doublejj

I didn't read everyone else's response so maybe Someone gave you this advice mix some garden lime and water two times then feed those plants. It's not because of heat its been 110 degrees where I live and my plants are fine. I also used last years soil. Check out my thread and be careful who you choose to listen too because we can't all be right lol

Just read the comment above cal mag and garden lime are good because lime has cal mag but also corrects ph and you can't add too much so it's easy to use

I appreciate the info thanks. Most of the garden has the old soil with new stuff. The 6 problem plants were all new soil this year so I have a feeling it needed to cook out longer than it did plus with me feeding a lot and the heat combined with the black 65 gal pots WAS frying the roots. The calmag definitely helped and my well water is Ph'ed somewhere around 6-6.5 I think next year I'll mix in a little lime in my soil mix.

This is what I'd do....
1)Place straw on top of the pots, this will help retain the moisture and help keep pots cool.
2)Water EVERYDAY from now on. Water heavy the first few days to flush. Those pots over heat, watering everyday will help this. Once I started watering everyday I was able to grow MONSTERS. I give 12-15 gallons of water daily in 200 gallon pots, I'd think 3-5 gallons a day should do good for those 65's after the first few days.
3)Feed once a week with Maxsea only (Calmag is okay to add). There may be some kind of reaction combining the two foods. Start at half strength then increase from there.
So the moral of this story is "more water, less food".
I planted my 2' tall plants in the 200 gallon smart pots on May 20th. I fed for the first time today with Maxsea. That's 6 weeks with no food added, while watering everyday. Take a look for yourself (click below), less is more!

I water every day......still. Plants are getting 15-20 gallons of water each everyday in 200 gallon pots.
I have a plant this year that will produce close to 10 units for me. She's a 11' round ball, just starting her stretch. Running out of room for her.
