plants growing too slow

ive seen 3 o from a cfl plant, dont listen to this guy"

Hahahaha, how many cfls was that bud? 25?-50? 1 goddamn hps bulb is all you need-1, and if ur friend got 3 ounces from 1 plant he would have double that using an hps. Cfls are great for Veg rooms and clones thats it. If Cfl is all you can do because of budget or space godbless you and keep growing. But comparing Cfl to Hps is like comparing jerking off to sex.

i must agree, ive done my share of larger cfl grows. my 400w hps beats the shit out of the 20 42w bulbs i was using. if its your only option its your only option but if you have the option of hid choosing cfls would be stupid. Trust me, I know this from personal experience. I regretted not starting with an hps for a while, till I realized that those cfls would make a great vegging chamber for a perpetual, but i wouldnt of bought so many of the higher wattage ones if i'd known i would end up only using them for a vegging area. The heat from the cfls is also alot harder to keep in check than the hps.

my only concern is will the heat from an hps be too much for my box. the pic on the first page shows how big inside.

A 250w will do fine in there bro, long as you have a fan blowing. My room is 4x4x6 and I use a 1000w hps with no special exuast or cooling system. When my light kicks on I leave my grow room door open and have a 4ft standing fan blowing at her. Does it still get hot in my room during the summer?Absolutly yes, sometimes into the mid 90's. But I can tell you that heat stress will not counter the effects mass lumens do to your yield. Lumens only a hps or mh can provide.

... Also with the fan blowing air in from the top cut another hole in the bottom some where and put a screen there so that the blowing air has a way to escape therfore causing a perfect fresh ait cycle instead of blowing air in a box with no exit... The air inside would try to come out where it is being forced in creating a mild pressure inside your grow bow... Makes sense
Heat rises, with that in mind, your exaust should be on top and your intake should be on the bottom. That would help keep temps down a bit. Lower the lights too. I use CFL's all the way through. In the process of building a box with HPS tho. But in my cfl box, I use 6 42watts per plant.

Drewabu - Take your negativity elsewhere. I'm sick of people preaching their HPS almighty garbage and ragging on CFLs. Go plead for an HSP sub-forum and stop criticizing so much. I have a problem with preachy people

umm...All I can say is that in two years of growing the first advice I would give anybody is upgrade to an Hps. If you flower w/Cfls your a rank amautur at best. Srry that is to preachy for you but maybe one day youll wake the fuck up.

I would love to see some pics of the 1000watt hsp 4x4x6 w/out any vent during the summer. Pls make sure to take a picture of the thermomter during the day hours, and of course take some pics of the 16 plants or so that you are growing. I would love to see it. Would love to see it. So lumens are more important than heat stress. And 90 degree temps are ok? CUT THE SHIT!

Well you wont have to wait long because tmmrw Im gonna take pics and show you everything I got, because I got nothing to hide(cept the fact i grow mj ) And the only one between us who is full of shit is you. You do know that Mj grows in the deserts at temps of 120+ during the day and then they drop to near freezing at night, right? And yes Lumens are way more important you dumbass noob.

U might need more wattage, u could give them feed but they dun't need it until they hit the veg stage ov growth, A 250w mixed spectrum bulb would give u plenty ov light then if they still were growin slow u'd no that something needs fine tuning,

YOUR LIGHTS ARE TOO FAR AWAY!

Move them within 2 inches, you can add nutes now if you have a limited amount of time. There is no reason why you should need anything else until they are bigger. Also you need to paint that wood with some flat white and get some light refraction. You should also try and make some kinda lamp for the bulbs....try lining carboard with something reflective or white. Its really easy and cheap....It will help direct the light towards the plants as well....In all honesty i think that you should do some more reading homie...If this is your 3rd attempt you really should be on top of things more by now...NO OFFENSE...just sayin.

LOL I keep my 5 20w 6500k cfl's 6 inches away from my 20 plants and they grow too fast with no stretching at all. And no offense... But it took me 5 to 6 tries to get good healthy plants. I know others who have spent months and months with awful, sickly plants but now grow monsters pushing 4 o's a plant. I think it is better to mess up many, many times at the beginning so you can fix your mistakes and learn from them. How I did it and I don't regret it! Luckily I'm a patient person

I agree, trial and error is a great method and probably the best way to learn. I have always been under the impression that the strength of a CFL light dissipates very quickly. The name of this thread is "plants growing too slow" I was merely offering advice. The only pictures you posted had the lights too far. I'm glad my response was at least good for some LOLZ, I guess the next time you start a thread asking for help I'll know better than to respond. Repetition is the father of learning.

Cfl's do have the best light output when they are placed inches away from plants, but work plenty well enough from say 5 inches.
"Repetition is the father of learning." Is that your quote? Amazing and true haha

Cfls for flowering = Amateur, or poor bastard who has no choice, or someone who refuses to believe the world is not flat.

It will be just as easy, if not easier to control the heat from the hps than a bunch of cfls, you just need to get a forced air cooled hood and a remote ballast so you can keep the ballast outside of the grow area, that takes away alot of the heat, you'll only have to worry about the heat the bulb puts out, and the forced air cooled hood takes care of that. It's slot easier to vent all the hot air from 1 bulb out right away than it is to vent multiple cfls that to be used need to be surrounding the plant on all sides.
