Plants Looking Sickly Going Into The 5th Week Of Flowering

I'd just like to say this site has a great wealth of knowledge. Thanks to all for that.

This is my first grow so I'm by no means experienced! This is also my first post.

These are bag seed and look to be 2 different strands. I didn't want to start my first grow with $10/pop seeds :)

I'm having an issue going into the 5th week of flowering. The leaves near new buds look perky and healthy, but a lot of the leaves are looking curled and sickly. Going into flowering they were perfectly healthy (First pic). I live in southern Arizona and it's extremely dry (~25% humidity now) and I've been told I need to water more often because of it. They're sitting in a 45 gallon tub with a mix of miracle grow moisture control, perlite, and vermiculite. I've generally been giving them a gallon of water every 3-4 days or so. I doubled that and gave the girls 2 gallons yesterday morning without nutes. No change. I've started them on a very low dosage of Sensi Bloom a/b (4ml/4ml), b-52 (4ml), and carbo load (4ml) per gallon 2 weeks ago.

I also have some seedlings I have some questions about (yea i know there's a little but burn.. I've backed off all the nutes for the time being) Some leaves are pointing straight up. I've been told that it's a sign of strong root development, however my strongest plants don't do this, so I'd like to get a more general consensus about it. I'm growing 3 vanilla kush, a red dwarf, and a NL x BB for my 2nd grow. I've got a pile of short stuff seeds auto seeds. I like the way the red dwarf is going. It's already starting to bud 2 weeks in.

Thanks for the help!

I hope someone with more experience can help more than me, but what I think happens is a common mistake with new growers. They veg just fine then once they start flowering the plants go to hell. Not because they are using the wrong type of nutes but because the plants needs change, but the grower doesn't change what has been working for them during veg. I am having a similar problem and what I did to fix it was flush the plants and then added lime to get the PH to 6.2 ish from the runoff. Problem is I was 4 weeks into flower and the damage to the leaves had already been done. Here is my suggestion take it for what its worth... At the start of flowering dont hit em with a bloom fert instead flush with lots of plain old water for at least 3 watering cycles (a week and a half). This will take out all those built up high in N salts in the soil. Then you can start them on the bloom nutes, I think mixing in a little of the veg nutes will help keep the plants green but dont over do it as the plants will not need it as much as the P. Keep an eye on your runoff PH if that is not in the range it needs to be the plants cant get the nutes they need.

looks normal to me...
your buds are just sucking what left of the nutes out of the soil, and then some that was stored in the leaves, as of right now you should be watching more for bud rot and spider mites... nice plants dude, they look sick (in a good way).

My water tends to be ~8.0 - ~8.5 due to the crazy amounts of calcium in the water. Sadly I wasn't paying to much attention to the PH since the plants were always going strong. I've started to take note and have noticed the nutes actually drop the PH down to ~7ish. Also there isn't any run off.. They're in a tub. There's so much soil mix that all the water gets absorbed before it ever reaches the bottom (clear plastic tub). Thanks for the info

What are the signs of bud rot? I do have 2 strains and one of the strains aren't anywhere near the size of the buds and the pistals are browning a bit. I think this is light poisoning and have since sealed the door a bit better (my veg closet is right across from my flower closet) and they're growing more pistals through the buds. If I'm wrong and this is something else let me know. This strain is also the one showing the worst damage. Their buds are 1/2 the size as well.

Some of the stalks are turning red too. Is this normal?

Thanks for the info guys!

When you think of bud rot just think of anything else that would be rotting... buds start to lose their color, get an unpleasant odor, the stem turns white-ish... this is 99% of the time cause by moist, damp air and poor cirulation among your plants... and the red stalks happen sometimes, must be part of your strain, happy toking

Outside ~105ish inside the grow closet ~75ish. There's an A/C unit blowing right through the hallway where the closet is. I think I'm going to get a grow tent soon so I have vents without a cracked door or drilling the wall. I found one online that's 4'D x 8'W x 6.5'H for $190

Arizona in the middle of summer, what are the temps?

Just remember to let the pots dry out between watering and let that determine when to water them next rather than some arbitrary number someone gave you.
