Plastic or Metal Inline Fans better for growing indoors?

A lot of inline fans have a plastic housing so they can be mounted outdoors without having problems with the moisture. I am growing indoors so I don't care about that.

All else being equal, is there any advantage to having one type of fan over the other indoors?

I don't trust plastic personally. Other than if you live in a REALLY humid area, I see no advantage to using them. But I have no experience with them so...

I'm talking about an inline exhaust fan (Vortex, Can Fan, S&P, Elicent, etc.), not a blower or an oscillating fan. Anyone else have any thoughts on whether one is better than the other?

I am using a vortex 6" 424 CFM fan, and I have used the Can-Fan, too. The Can cost more, but when I turned it on, it was clearly worth it, as far as stealthyness goes! I am selling my Can Fan on ebay, now. I went with 1 aircooled light, so no need for the extra fan. pro

As for metal vs plastic, I would think the metal housing would be much quieter than plastic, but I can't speak from experience.

So you're saying the can fan is quieter? How come you're selling that one then and not the vortex unit? I'd keep the better one myself...

So the Can Fan you used, was it metal or plastic? (CF makes both)

Both of the fans he described are metal. Anyone have experience with both metal and plastic housings, and can say whether there is any advantage to a plastic housing besides being good for outdoors?
