I would opt for soil if you are starting out, it seems easier to me but everyone is different

Do some searching and see what is working for people and what you like, that's what I did

Not too sure about the Florescent bulb thing but good luck

nutes have instructions brands are open to debate just read some posts here or get a book its pretty basic. light water air you can make it as complicated as you want. floresents put them close. yeah you might want to use soil untill you get the concept but its up to you

here is the deal buddy! if you want to grow hydro than go for it. go into your local indoor gardening shop and ask a lot of questions. its not impossible to do, but soil is WAYY more forgiving to new growers. most of the weed grown for the cannabis cup is grown in soil. so dont think for a minute that soil cannot produce as good of a product. the advantage to hydro is that you can give it the perfect amount of nutrients, but dude if you are a beginner than no offense but no beginner anywhere has ever grown the best buds in the world on their first try. if i were you i would go with a soil grow. if you only want to do hydro than do the drain to waste method. drain to waste allows you to not have to test ph levels and ec levels. you just mix the nutrients, pour in through the medium and when it drips through than you just dump it somewhere. you feed once a day and give the plant only water some days. go buy a book. seriously its totally worth it. do a lot of reading about hydro if you are gonna do it. good luck!

I recommend using what sounds the easiest to you when you take that trip to the gardening store. In fact, if you have a hydro store then go there instead. but use the code word "tomatoes" as your plant. They will know what you are talking about.

If you are using soil, then use something that has very little (preferably zero) nutrients in it if you are just starting out. I always give the soil a watering prior to planting just in case the PH is too high. I would personally recommend House and Garden Soil A&B. You wont have to worry about adding cal/mag or any other supplements for deficiencies as long as your PH is controlled.

Also, if your were to use coco and mix 40% big and chunky perlite instead of soil and use the house and garden coco A&B nutes then you will have no issues with over watering which is the most common noob mistake.

Happy Growing

I don't grow hydro but reading the site I'd say Fox Farms, Advanced Nutrients are 2 widely used hydro nutes. There are a number of others but Fox Farms in particular seems widely used. Fox Farms web site has feed schedules etc. I grow soil as my power is not as reliable as I'd need it to be before going hydro. I'm learning so maybe later.

If you are looking for Organics, then you should be using B'cuzz nutrients or Botanicare. Both are good ORGANIC nutes with feed schedules.
