Hey all,

My friend is contructing a new flowering room in a 8ftx8ftx9ft walk in closet and asked for some help designing it. I told him i knew the perfect place to ask for brilliant help. All and any advice is very much appreciated. He will be vegging the plants (probably super skunk) in a seperate grow cabinet until he has about 8-12 plants that are about 2-3ft tall, in which he will then place them in the flowering room hoping to grow 8-12 monsters or as big as possible. These will be grown in soil and he hopes to produce maximum yield. He basically has a set plan but would like to know further advice. Here it goes:

Room- Walk in closet will be coated in flat white paint to be ultra reflective. Any other suggestions?

Lighting - He was thinking maybe 1 1000w hps or maybe 2 600's hps. What do you think and any suggestions on particular brands?

Ventilation - 2 fans maybe more depending on suggestions. He will cut holes in the door of the closet to properly fit fans. One exhaust fan near the top of the door and one in-take fan near the bottom. How many cfm's do you think are required to properly control heat, odor, and proper airflow throughout the room? Also any particular brands suggestions will be appreciated. A portable ac unit may be added to cool down closet if need be. Oscillating fans 2-3 will be added in the room to properly circulate airflow throughout the room. Also no cool tubes will be added on lights, so he will need enough air to properly keep temps under control. Also a humidifier will be added to help control humidity.

Odor control - Will add a carbon filter to exhaust fan. Or will purchase ozone generator or machine or whatever they are called to control smell or maybe both. What do u suggest for this size room? Any particular brands would be much appreciated.

That pretty much sums it up. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

All advice or suggestions will be appreciated. Even critiques or negative views. He wants to do this the right way as he will go for ultimate yield and he wishes to also just have a fun and enjoyable experience through this journey. I know all of you are the right people to ask. Thanks for all your help, it is greatly appreciated. :bigjoint:

Go with two 600's. That's 180k lm vs 140k for 1000w. The difference of a 400W HPS give or take.

Eye Hortilux makes superb bulbs(bit pricey).

Well, 8'*8'*9' is 576 cubic feet. Keep that in mind when getting ventilation. How often do you want to cycle the air. That's 4,308.8 gallons.

There's quite a few carbon filter DIY's around here.... Ozone can be dangerous, make sure it's in the exhaust system and not in the room with the plants.

Good luck.

I dont know how often he will want to cycle air through. How often do you think is necessary?

Depends mostly on your temps. 576 cfm will cycle the air in the room about once a minute. 1000 cfm would do it about two times a minute. If temperatures are a problem, I suppose you could go up to 3-5 * 576 cfm.

do you really think that two lights will heat up a room that size that much or even just one 1000w? as long as he moves 576 cfm's do you think he would be ok? plus an 275 intake fan for fresh cooler air

It'd depend on the ambient temperature. You can always add more as needed.
i just wasn't aware that you needed to cycle air through the room more than once per minute. thanks for your help though. anything else that would be successful? do you think he would be able to produce good yields with this set up. if so, how much?
