I have one large plant in a 1.2x1.2 tent. 6th week flowering.

Can someone confirm that turning on the ballast with no lamp attached = death? I find this incredible?? Why would it blow if the lamp is not attached....??

The connectors I used are rated for 10AMP

no lamp = nothing. if it's wired correctly you might hear a hum, but it won't smoke or burn. you've got a short.

OK. So your saying the ballast died on its own.. I never modified it or anything. Plugged it in and poof....

Before that happened, my power tripped for my house. It may have been the ballast that caused the outage?

Also is my wiring OK?? I'm scared I may burn my house down...

check all connections. if you short a pos to a neg, you'll pop the breaker. if the breaker doesn't go, you'll get fire (smoke, spark, nasty)

your house wiring should be fine. check the component. good luck, and pm me if you have any more problems. i am an electrician.

I notice you didnt make mention of what wattage of light you are using but if you are using a 1K watt light, it likely comes to or exceeds the 10A rating on those connectors -certainly on start up. I wouldnt recommend that at all if this is the case.
If you are using a 600W/400W/250W HID light it will be good with 10A connectors on the wiring.
It also appears that the gauge wire from the plug and the cord are the same gauge.
I believe they use the same gauge on most HID lights. I have both 1000's and a 400 and they have the same gauge wire on them.

Your hydro store should have a extension that will allow you to use that ballast. Quite a few new ballast I've seen have attachments for both types of plugs
