It's the soil if it has nutes in it already, I've never used it!
Your babies look burnt you could try seedling dirt like
Light Warrior/ Sunshine mix 4 with just plain water for the
first week in 18 oz cups then go to the 1 gallon trade.
Keep'em in the 1 gallons with the seedling dirt
till their root bound even if
you need to give like a 1/2 tsp of grow big is what I did.
But when you go in your soil use just plain water if it has nutes!
Use the 400 watter after it has 1 good set of real leaves then
it will really be worth it! this is ffof~

Where can I get light warrior/sunshine mix, and how much is it? Also, as an experienced indoor gardener I've found that transplanting more than once is risky... I worked at a plant nursery for some time and we did let the seedlings of our plants get root bound and then transplant them.. but I never thought this was a good idea. Why do people do this when they can just leave it in a 5 gallon and never transplant it. It seems transplanting just produces stress.

you can pick up a nice soil from pretty much any online hydro / gardening store.. fox farm makes a nice product, either ocean forest or light warrior, or both and mix the two, lol... they usually run around 15 /20 bucks for a yard and half sized bag which is good for a few nice sized pots...
there is a link i think it's called something like hydro finder.com and all you do is put in your zip code or city and it will tell you the nearest hydro store.. i've found like 3 stores near me using the site..
i'd try and find a local store instead of online though tbh as the shipping on soil kills you as i just sent some soil online to a friend of mine so that she could start growing again.. i think i paid like a lil over $100 for the two bags of soil i sent her, which would have been more like $30 / $40 if i could have gotten it in a store for her, but she doesn't live in the same state, and i was being generous, lol..

i dont soak my seeds... and i dont use the paper towel method...
just plant the seeds in soil about 1/4" from the surface (i water the soil before i plant the seed coz if i did it the other way around the water might push the seed farther down, and u want the seed to be very close to the top of the soil). And put the seeds under a warm light... after that all u need to do is spray the top of the soil to make sure it always stays wet.
100% success rate the way nature intended...
