Hello all,

I’m a new grower and have gone through 4 harvests now.My recent patch came out beautiful. I driedfor 10 days. Hung branches not full plant in door setting room temp 68-71 degrees F. I jarred 23 days ago. Opened daily at first then every other day. Jar is in dark cool environment. I take nugs out once a week to mix and then put back in jar. I still have that hay smell from cloraform. What am I not doing? Please help. Also I flushed 6 days before harvest. Strain is kali kush feminized.

Humidity inside the bag or jar you store it in should under 70, if you stored your stuff too wet it'll have the hay smell. If you wet trim it'll have the hay smell, not sure how moist they were at 5 days? next time try not to trim until they're ready to be bagged up. When you think they're ready take a few buds untrimmed and throw in a jar with a humidistat , once it consistently reads below 70rh you're ready to trim

The humidity was at 40-60% during veg. I dropped it to 40 and below for flower. I just ordered humidifier packs and readers that way I can get a jar reading like you suggested. Thank you guys for all the helpful tips. I’ll update when I get some more info for you guys.

So Trim at 70 then jar and cure it?

I open my jars as often as I can for the first month I also let the house get good and stinky before I close the jars back up.. Also I let my plants hang till the stem snaps but doesn't break. Keep growing and keep learning. Best of luck!

Shoot for a slow dry at 60f 60rh for 14-21 days put in the jars boom done

Your start getting a feel fro when they are ready the more harvest you do...just don't let it get to hot or too humid 65rn is pushing it when drying

Too humid or dried too fast will give you that no so pungent odor your looking for

What I do is once I get RH readings of slightly less than 70 I trim. So put a few average size nugs in a bag with a meter and see what you've got after an hour, if its 70 for example once you trim it all it'll lose a little bit of moisture from sitting out and should end up in the mid 60's by the time your done.

Sometimes ya gotta cut corners dying, I get it but try to maintain as close to 60f 60% humidity. You dried to warm and to dry, curing isn’t going to fix it. It’s still gonna get ya high just never gonna taste like dank. Don’t feel to bad pretty much everyone’s first harvest ends up poorly processed but once you’ve got it half ass dialed in it’ll be better tasting than anything you buy from the plug(assuming you grew it well and from good genes) keep at it. When I was (up until very recently) drying in the same room my tents were in I aimed for 70f 55-65rh and my weed tastes really really good, now I’ve built a drying “closet” on the outside wall in my spare bedroom, 12ft x 4ft with a 5000btu window ac, 50pint dehumidifier, 4l coolmist humidifier and a hepa/uvc air purifier(not absolutely needed but very helpful in the prevention of mold/mildew) so no more cut corners and all that’s left to do is brace the ac with steel security bars and board up the glass on the window.

Ain’t saying you gotta do all of that though, I have a tendency to take everything I enjoy way to far

How bad is it if you can’t maintain humidity levels around 60%? I just happen to live in a place that has about 90/95% humidity outside and inside it goes down to about 75%. Buying a dehumidifier isn’t an option because this country doesn’t even know they exist. Should I just get a bunch of fans and hope for the best when drying/curing my bud?

Fans can help. The big risk is buds drying unevenly. Then you have a high risk of mold and that’s about as bad as it can get. I’m sure there are other solutions more experienced growers could help with also.

Thank you. I have humidifiers and exhaust fans to control humidity. I can keep them at around 70 degrees. I didn’t know humidity played such a big part in drying. I knew slow was the way to go but had only been concerned with humidity control during flower and curing process. The buds look amazing and the smell it’s overwhelmingly with the hey/ Cloraform it’s just not that beautiful aroma I was going for. Your set up sounds awesome. Im in a current grow of skunk #1, Bruce Banner, and garila glue with Cali Cush and will post right before I harvest to make sure I get it right.
