Hello! So i have a seedling that just popped outta the soil yesterday and i removed its shell this morning and the cotylegons have opened up. But the single fingered folowing leaves and some of the cotylegons have some yellowing. The baby leaves are yellow at the very tips and the cotyl's are just randoms spots. I was wondering if it is already nute burn or if its normal and they will grow more green. Its planted in straight ocean forest rn and have a single 23 w cfl im using till i can offord some more fixtures and add some more cfls. I cannot buy anything for them rn so dont say use less nuted soil like happy frog cause i have no money right now. Oh i also flushed the soil for about 15 seconds before planting. Its hard to tell coloration in pic. Thank you for your help!

probably nute burn considering FFOF, but could be overwatering. It isn't normal because I've seen 4'+ plants still having healthy cotyledons.

@pjsk8allday

I actually dont see nothing wrong in the pic, if the shell got stuck then it may take a little time for fresh sprouts to go white/purple to green.

Mistakes cost money, The best thing you can do for yourself is educate, look at what chem posted and get to work.

If you dont have extra funds set aside when your a beginning grower...well then thats your first mistake sorry to say....before I jumped in I made sure in had extra funds for equipment or pest control or whatever . I just thought how shitty its gonna be to invest all my money and time just to have a whole crop ruined because i couldn't afford pest spray or some corrective actions . Ocean forest is usually to hot to start seedlings in. I learned that the hard way . Switched to happy frog and have had zero issues since

I'll be honest with you not to be a dick
But to help.
Dude is right that you should have planned and saved. If you can't afford a bag of dirt maybe you aren't ready to start yer grow.
Reason being is this is all about patients. Patience?
I hate to see you get halfway through having invested time and money and
Be shit out of luck.

Having said that I know it's none of my business but if I could give you a tip.
It would be to study and save then implement.

I understand wanting to just plow in and you can do that but in the end it will be more expensive and time consuming.
Take care

P. S you need an emergency cash fund
For when you get mites or whatever.

Shit will happen

If it survives FFOF from seed, luck may be on your side. FFOF is like coffee for plants. It's a delight for adults, but not really for children. Be careful with adding nutes going forward. Remember FFOF is amazing stuff. But for $25 a bag, it should be.

Your next challenge will be lighting which can be done fairly cheaply in your case. Buy a double socket adapter (from a hardware store) and use two bulbs of at least 100 Watt equivalent. Then you'll quickly want a bigger container (lots of cheap options for that too). Then back to lighting. After your first successful grow, you'll be broke for a while :weed: as you continue to buy better gear.

FYI - Most MJ growing problems come from giving them too much love. They've grown on their own under very poor conditions for many, many years. My point is to let them do their thing, and give them a little support as they get older.

Good luck! No matter what, keep on tryin'.

Very well put! I like the FFOF comparison. I always start with 100% happy frog and then when I first transplant . I do a 50/50 mix of HF and FFOF. then final transplant full FFOF , extra worm cast and perlite

I greatly appreciate your and everyones input!:) so when you say 2 100w equivalent, you mean like how bulb say X equivelent watt, and X actual watts used, right? Cause tbh lighting is my biggest worry cause i really will only be able to use 2 or maybe 3 cfls through this whole grow but im only trying to get atleast a dried qtr out of it just so i can test the waters, ya know? And i think 23w cfls are close to 100 w equivalent right?

Yes, a 23 Watt CFL is about 100 Watt equivalent. Consider LED for your next purchase. Similar LED bulbs use about 15 Watts and also create less heat. Even if these regular LED bulbs touch the plant, it may not burn them. Grow light LEDs are very different.

It worries me that you can only have a few CFLs. As a guideline, during flower I use about 600 equivalent Watts per plant. But of course, that depends a lot of your grow space layout. Just keep growing!

if all you can have is 2-3 23w cfls for the whole grow, im sorry but i would just cut my losses before i get my hopes up.

why dont you save up a couple hundred bucks for an entry level led?

you need a minimum of 100w per plant if your wanting anything decent off of a plant. I mean if you could buy 5 - 23 w cfls. I think that would be bare minimum of amount of light needed to grow a plant all the way through harvest. really, cfls are cheap and pretty easy to build a fixture with. the work great for small closet grows. maybe start out with 5 23w cfls for vegging then buy another 5 when you get to flower. Id run 5 23w 6500k cfls for veg. Then get 5 more 23w 2700k cfls to mix with your 5 6500k cfls for flower. I would bet with one plant you would be surprised at the results you would get
